Phillip G. Macht
May 17, 2010

Phillip “Moose” Macht, 68, died May 17, 2010 at the Rennes Health and Rehab Center in Green Bay after a courageous battle with cancer. Mr. Macht was born December 14, 1941 in Milwaukee, WI. He was the second of eleven children born to the late Arthur J. Macht, M.D. and Gertrude Helen (Hohn) Macht.

Mr. Macht grew up in Marshfield, WI, graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point in 1965 and did graduate study at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He married Mary Wirtz on January 25, 1964 and enjoyed 46 years of marriage. In 1967, he began a long career with the Wisconsin Department of Corrections as a social worker at the Waupun Prison. During his career he held many positions in the Department of Corrections in Waupun, Wisconsin Rapids, Oregon, Phillips, Green Bay and Oshkosh, finally retiring in 1999 as the Warden/Superintendent of the Wisconsin Resource Center in Oshkosh. He was a nationally recognized leader in the treatment of mentally ill and cognitively disabled offenders.

Moose was a big man with an even bigger spirit. He loved the outdoors and spent countless days in the woods, on a fishing boat or in a duck blind. He lived for his children and grandchildren and for the time spent with family and friends in a hunting shack in the middle of the woods. At the time of his death Moose held the honorable position of Grand Puba of the Touie-Touie hunt camp.

Mr. Macht is survived by his wife, Dr. Mary Wirtz Macht; a daughter, Teddi Macht Mikula (Chris) of Green Bay; a son Tim (Theresa Lee) of New Glarus, WI; two treasured granddaughters, Sierra and Madalena Lee-Macht; four brothers, Rye (Homososa, FL), Joseph (LaCrosse, WI), Tom (Eagle, CO), Eric (Rosholt, WI); and five sisters, Arlene Belletire (Cincinnatti), Susan (Stevens Point), Gretchen Macht-Nasal (Madison), Mary Macht-Brooks (Madison), and Hannah (Nederland, CO). He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Mark.

A celebration of Moose’s life will be held Monday, May 24 from 3 to 6 PM (ceremony beginning at 5 PM) at Pfotenhauer Funeral Home, 2379 E. Mason St., Green Bay.
His family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations are sent to Macht Village Scholarship Fund (serving disadvantaged children), 1610 Main Street, Green Bay, WI 54302.

Philip Southard
May 16, 2010

Philip L. Southard, 56, Sunrise, FL, formerly of Green Bay, passed away on Sunday, May 16, 2010 as a result of an automobile accident.

Philip was born in London, England on Nov. 12, 1953, the son of Robert and Madelyn (McShea) Southard. He grew up in Green Bay, graduating from East High School, Class of 1971. In 1975, he graduated from UW Green Bay with a BA in Business. Phil worked in TV production at WFRV-TV, Green Bay and later at WITI-TV, Milwaukee. In the mid 1980’s, he moved to Los Angeles to work as an accountant with a major accounting firm. Later he moved to Sunrise, FL. He was employed as Manager of Accounts Receivable for Marble Of The World Co.

He is survived by his father, Robert O. Southard and step-mother, Martha (Back-Moore) Southard; brother, Robert Southard and his daughter, Selah, Venice, CA; sister, Victoria (Eric) Lairson and their daughter, Madelyn, Newberg, OR; step brother, Steven Moore and twins, Michael and Rachel; step sisters, Jenny (Moore) Pamperin and her sons Jacob and Jordan; Christine (David) Robins and Garrett and Kayla; one uncle, John Herzog; two cousins, Tim and Nate Herzog.

Phil had many good friends in Green Bay, Los Angeles and Sunrise especially Larry Vannes, Don and Cindy Popp and all his co-workers at Marble of the World.

Philip was preceded in death by his mother; two sisters, Pamela and Lori Southard; grandparents, Robert and Daisy Southard; one aunt, Ruth Herzog.

Visitation at the Pfotenhauer Funeral Home & Cremation Service, East-Town location, 2379 East Mason St., Green Bay, on Monday, May 24 from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. Memorial Service 11:00 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with Rev. Paul Johnson officiating.

A memorial fund has been established for the Cerebral Palsy Center of Green Bay, in memory of Pamela Southard.

Carol (Weycker) Gerondale
May 12, 2010

Carol (Weycker) Gerondale, 68, Suamico, passed away at a local hospital after a short illness with cancer on Wednesday, May 12, 2010.

Carol was born Sept. 22, 1941 to the late Gordon and Mildred (Sheedy) Weycker. On June 26, 1982 she married Fred Gerondale. He preceded her in death on July 18, 2004.

Together, Carol and Fred owned and operated Gerondale’s Restaurant in Howard. She also worked for LongView Terrace until her retirement due to her illness. Carol loved to cook and was a great cook. She was well known for her potato salad and cheesy potatoes. Easter egg hunts at their home were always a goodtime, too. Carol enjoyed working in housekeeping management, taking care of the elderly, playing games on her computer and going to the casino with her casino buddy, Carla.

She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Glenn (Sharon) Weycker; brother-in-law, Roger Magnuson; both of Howard; step children: Fred (Kathy) Gerondale; Cindy (Michael) Steeno; Connie (Phil) Bruner; Tom (Debbie) Gerondale; 10 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; 19 nieces and nephews; and her cat, Scruffy.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred; parents; one sister, Darlene Magnuson; one nephew, Patrick Weycker.

Family and friends may call at the Pfotenhauer Funeral Home, Howard-Suamico location, on Sunday, from 3 until 7 p.m. Memorial prayer service
7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Entombment in the Shrine of the Good Shepherd Chapel Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established at the funeral home.

The family wishes to thank Unity Hospice, all the nurses and staff at St. Mary’s Hospital 3rd and 5th floors; all the many doctors who took such wonderful care of Carol.

Gary J. Pierquet
April 15, 2010

Gary J. Pierquet, 67, Green Bay, passed away at his home surrounded by his family on Thursday, April 15, 2010.

He was born on Aug. 6, 1942 to the late Raymond and Evelyn (VanderMuss) Pierquet. Gary enjoyed his family and friends, golfing, fishing, helping his kids, cruising the northside, sitting in his gazebo with Maggie, his 43 years with Carol (minus one), his children and grandchildren, and going to Crivitz to see “Pal” Davey.

He will be remembered with love by Carol; children, Debra Benson; Mark (Tina) Benson; Scott Benson; grandchildren, Deanna Rivera; Adam Charneski; Angela, Ashley, Cory and Dustin Benson; 13 great grandchildren; four brothers, Dale, Terry (Sue), Roddy (Cindy), and Randy; two sisters, Susan Smith and Marty; Lynn Denman and Ray; sister-in-law, Nancy Wood. Further survived by aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, very special friends, “Pal” Davey and Sharon Tassoul and his pets, Baby and Maggie.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents; grand daughter, Kimberly Benson; brother, James Pierquet; sister, Laurie Pierquet; brother-in-law, Gary Smith.

Gary requested no services to be held.

Terrance James Wagner
April 10, 2010

Terrance ‘Terry’ Wagner, 61, of Goodman, passed away at home with his family by his side on Saturday, April 10, 2010.

Terry was born Feb. 16, 1949 in Green Bay to the late Ernie Wagner and Bonnie Lardinois. He graduated from Bay Port High School Class of 1967. He had been a longtime resident of Howard prior to moving to Goodman. On Feb. 24, 1968 he married the former Mary K. Vannieuwenhoven. Together, they enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S. and camping with the P&M Camping Club.

Terry worked for longtime friend Dan Casper in truck equipment for twenty-five years before he later purchased Lake Hilbert Campground in 2001 in which he poured his heart and soul into making his dream of owning and operating a campground a reality. As a result, he made numerous new friends that became extended family. He was involved in the Goodman community in which he donated much of his time and energy to keep the Goodman and Lake Hilbert area thriving by serving on several boards; was vice president of Florence County Snowmobile and ATV Club; member of the Goodman Conservation Club and Lake Hilbert Association, was a snowmobile and ATV safety instructor and trail coordinator for the club; was actively involved in the Dun-Good ATV Club ensuring a strong future for the trail system; and it could not be understated how much he loved grooming the trails in the peaceful ‘northwoods’.

Other interests include sporting clays, hunting in Wausaukee, fishing, trap shooting, bowling, and off road racing. He raced since he was 18 with the Wagner Brothers 31/32 race team, sportsman division at Kaukauna and 141 Speedway winning track Championship in 1991 and Mechanic of the year at Kaukauna. He was an avid NASCAR fan making several trips to his favorite short track in Bristol, TN.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 42 years, Mary, of Goodman; children: Tim (Nickie) Wagner, Suamico; Tammy ‘Wagner’ Huth and special friend, Brian Lobner, Niagara; Ted (Michelle) Wagner, Ashwaubenon; grandchildren: Dustin, Dylan and Devan Wagner; Maison and Lexi Huth; Briona Whalen and Marisa Wagner; mother, Bonnie Wagner; brothers, Gil (Helen) Wagner; Russ (Connie) Wagner; Dennis (Rhonda) Wagner; father and mother-in-law, Sylvester and DeDe Vannieuwenhoven; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bob (Cindy) Vannieuwenhoven; Betty (John) Fotopolous; Terry (Jim) Weibrecht; Wendy (John) Burbey; Further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Merle E. Knaus
April 5, 2010

Merle E. Knaus, 76, Howard, passed away at a local nursing home surrounded by his family on Monday, April 5, 2010.

He was born in Howard on August 14, 1933 to the late Fred and Etta (Bentley) Knaus. Merle served in the US Army and was honorably discharged in 1955. He married Marles Williquette on Nov. 2, 1960 in Green Bay and they would have celebrated 50 years together. Merle was employed as a carpenter at H.J. Martin for over 40 years. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Church and enjoyed bowling, golfing and following the Packers, Brewers and Bucks.

Survivors include his wife, Marles; children, Barbara (Steven) Gilliame, Howard; Mark Knaus, Green Bay; Tom Knaus, Green Bay; Kathy (Chuck) Vanark, Howard; grandchildren, Sara (Sean) O’Driscoll; Melissa Gilliame; Robby Knaus; Eric Knaus; Michael Vanark; Marie Vanark; one great granddaughter, Grace Ferry; brother, Allen ‘Luke’ (Shirley) Knaus; sisters, Gertrude (Robert) Wright; Leone Rodgers; Ethelyn Parafiniuk; Kay (Henry) Cramer; Beverly (Lee) Nelson; in-laws, Germaine Coppens and Bob (Pat) Williquette. Further survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Merle was preceded in death by his first wife, Patricia Huben; infant son, Gregory; five brothers, Dale, Lloyd, Connie, Austin and Fred; two sisters, Joyce Knaus and Lorreta Pierquet.

Journey RaeAnne Bembenek
April 3, 2010

Journey RaeAnne Bembenek, 17-month-old daughter of Chad and Stefanie (Gary) Bembenek, Suamico, passed away at home after a courageous battle with cancer on Saturday, April 3, 2010.

Journey was born October 31, 2008 in Rhinelander, Wisconsin. Journey loved to watch her brothers play, never taking her eyes off of them. They loved playing with her and making her smile. Journey also took her best friend, the stuffed animal Violet, everywhere with her, and would hold Violet’s ears whenever she was sleeping. Journey was always a happy, smiling child, and rarely cried. Journey had a way of lighting up the room, as everyone who met her, loved being around her.

Survivors include her parents; brothers, Jaiden and Joaquin; grandparents, Larry (Char) Bembenek; Bill (Bonnie) Gary; great grandparents, Chester (Bernice) Bembenek; Joe Karlen; Don (Roberta) Rothe; Dorothy Gary; uncles, Derek (Kathy) Gary; Kevin Gary; Jody (Michelle) Bembenek; cousins, Will Gary; Brianna and Ben Bembenek; godmother, Becky (Nick) Becker; special friends, Brett DeGrave; Travis, Tricia, Kole and Kylie Gechas.

James 'Jimmy' G. Hanaway
March 25, 2010

James ‘Jimmy’ G. Hanaway, 54, Green Bay, passed away unexpectedly with his family by his side at a local hospital.

Jim was born May 3, 1955 in Green Bay to the late James and Catherine (LaFave) Hanaway. He graduated from Ashwaubenon High School Class of 1973 and was currently attending Rasmussen College for web design. He was previously employed by Broadway Automotive; drove deliveries for Krispy Crème; and was a driver for Washington Inventory Service (WIS). Jimmy enjoyed traveling, volleyball, family gatherings, various bible studies in timeline and Sanctuary and created a bible game, and was known for being ‘sweet on sweets’.


Survivors include his brothers and sisters, Mary (Richard) Peters and their daughter, Rachel, Howard; Kathleen (Les) Zirbel and their daughter, Sara, Milwaukee area; Janet Hanaway and her daughter, Shawna, Green Bay; Susan (Keith) Thiesfeldt and their sons, Tyler and Scott, Suamico; Terry (Jim) Willett and their children, Jamie, Robbie and Jimmy John, De Pere; Carolyn Austin and her children, Norman III and Ryan, Freedom; Jerry (Sherri) Hanaway and their children, Samantha, Allison, and Katie, Howard; Jane (Dan) Mencheski and their children, Sierra and Savana, Suring; Timothy Hanaway and his children, Travis and Tommy, Oconto; great nieces and nephews, Michael, William, Emma and Elizabeth; aunts and uncles, John (Doris) Hanaway, Mary Jo (Bob) Shaw, Greg (Ruth) LaFave. Jayne A. Servais
March 20, 2010

Jayne A. Servais, 63, Green Bay, died at home with her family by her side on Saturday, March 20, 2010.

She was born on November 6, 1946, in New London, the first child to Anthony and Theda (Nolan) Polich. Jayne was dedicated to helping others and had a lifelong commitment to public service. After being a social worker for many years, she spent 10 years teaching for the Wisconsin Department of Corrections. At the age of 60 she completed her Masters Degree in Education at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She was an active member of St. John the Baptist Church where she served as chairperson of the Social Concerns Committee. Jayne had a great appreciation for beauty and loved to travel. Family was her highest priority and she was an enthusiastic grandmother. She was an incredible mother who made real sacrifices for her children; they will miss her dearly.

Jayne is survived by her children, Heather Servais (Haidyn Cox), Sydney, Australia; Eric Servais (Stephanie), Madison; Ryan Servais (Jinha Evenson), Brooklyn, NY; Kate Servais, Madison; two grandchildren, Grace and Ava; her mother, Theda Polich; four sisters, Mary (Ron) Coppersmith; Barbara Polich (Val Antczak); Patricia Polich; Kathryn (Greg) Bryan; niece, Jody (Pete, Abigail and Elizabeth) Walton; nephews, Benjamin and Thomas Antczak; Tyler and Troy Bryan.

She was preceded in death by her father, Anthony Polich.

Family and friends are welcome at the Pfotenhauer Funeral Home, 1145 Cardinal Lane, Howard, on Wednesday, March 24, from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service to follow at 7:00 p.m. A Memorial Mass will be held on Thursday, March 25, 1:00 p.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Howard, with Rev. John Bergstadt officiating.

A memorial fund has been established in Jayne’s name at the funeral home.
