Keeping You Informed

Press Release: for Immediate Release (Pfotenhauer Funeral Homes)

RE: Wisconsin Funeral Trust

In light of the recent news articles discussed in local newspapers regarding the Wisconsin Funeral Directors Association (WFDA) Trust Fund, questions were raised about the solvency of the fund for prepaid funerals.   We want to assure our clients their funds are 100% secure.

While we are an active member of the WFDA, Pfotenhauer Funeral Homes has never participated in the ‘Master Trust’ account.

Specifically, our clients own either a pre-need insurance policy or a certificate of deposit held with an insured financial institution. It should be made very clear that all these products are highly regulated and protected by the State and/or other financial regulatory boards.

If you have questions regarding pre-need, please feel free to contact us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or

Memorial Tree Dedication Program

Families who have used our services from September through August receive a formal invitation to the dedication program. The date and time of the Tree Dedication Service will be confirmed as the time draws near.

The Memorial Tree Dedication Service is a complimentary program that recognizes those families who have utilized our services throughout the year. The Pfotenhauer Family plants a collection of trees in remembrance of your loved one. Each family is recognized at the memorial service and provided with a certificate of authenticity. The celebration will include a Remembrance and Dedication Service. It is our way of saying thank you for the trust and confidence you have placed in our family of funeral homes.

Memorial Ride Ends at Dedication Site

For Carl Christensen and his family, it’s been a difficult couple of years; first the death of loving wife, Marie Sue; and then the loss of his mother, Martina.

Having utilized the services of the Pfotenhauer Family Funeral Homes, Carl was invited to attend the funeral home’s Celebration of Life Ceremony held at the Reforestation Camp, Suamico.

The program is a memorial tribute to the families the funeral home has assisted throughout the year. According to Andy Pfotenhauer, funeral director and owner of the funeral home, “the trees represent a living memorial tribute to those who have gone before us. We believe the trees are a beautiful symbol representing the seasons or cycles of our lives. Each year we dedicate the trees in the name of the deceased and hold a ceremony at the site of the planting.”

Over the past fifteen years, some thirty plus trees have been planted and dedicated in and around the area surrounding the upper pavilion and the upper parking lot at the Reforestation Camp, Suamico. According to Pfotenhauer, in prior years they used to plant seedlings, however, in an effort to see the results of the program faster, the park agreed to the present area of placement and offered even larger trees for the dedication. As a result, it created a win-win situation for the park and for the Pfotenhauer’s.

“It’s an awesome program. When you enter the park you’re among a community of trees that have been dedicated in loving memory of our local residents, loving husbands and wives, sons and daughters, moms and dads, brothers and sisters, and so forth. These people weren’t just some names on a black and white obituary or even less accurately represented by some dash mark between two dates on a memorial marker. These people lived lives, shared hopes and dreams, and touched the lives of others. For us, this memorial is a continuum of that life lived and that life shared”, said Pfotenhauer.

At last year’s dedication service, Carl Christensen took Pfotenhauer up on his words when he said, “these trees belong to you, and please visit them”. Carl and his family, friends, and a group of riders known as the Northwood Riders of Crivitz did just that. They initiated an organized memorial ride this year from Crivitz, Wisconsin, to the site of the dedicated trees. They came not only to remember and honor Carl’s late wife, Marie Sue and his mother, Martina; they also came to remember Kevin VanPay, Jackie Michaletz, and P.J. Stanislawski. In Carl’s words, “this is a wonderful gift the Pfotenhauers have given. They are good people and a great family business to work with. It truly shows their care and compassion.” In response, Andy Pfotenhauer replied, “my wife Laurie and I were invited to attend Carl’s memorial this year and we [the Pfotenhauer family] were truly honored to be a part of it. It really makes all of us at the funeral home feel good when others take this program and make it their own and continue to share the life stories of the people who were so special in their lives”. Christensen indicated he intended to make the ride an annual event.

The Pfotenhauer family and funeral home staff wish to thank Carl Christensen and his family, friends, and the Northwood Riders for sharing this story with them and offering to share it with others.
