Edwin ‘Ed’ John Hendzel, 78, Green Bay, passed away unexpectedly at a local hospital on Saturday, January 7, 2012. He was born in Pulaski on March 28, 1933 to the late Frank and Agnes (Gunia) Hendzel. Ed graduated from Pulaski High School. He served as a corporal in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged. Ed married the former Patricia Jane Marks on Oct. 3, 1953. He worked at Proctor & Gamble Paper Co. for 35 years and retired in 1988. Edwin immensely enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He had a natural talent for carpentry and had an inventive mind. His projects included building an entire home or fashioning a birdhouse. He inherited a green thumb from his mother and especially loved growing flowers. On Sundays, he enjoyed cheering on the Packers. He was extremely devoted to his family and loved spending time with them. He had incredible strength and perseverance and an “I gotta” attitude. He was an inspiration to everyone who knew him. Survivors include his loving wife of 58 years, Patricia; children, Lynn (Ralph) Vander Loop; Mike Hendzel (special friend, Sally Obey); Karen (Rod) Oldakowski; Jeff (Kathryn) Hendzel; Jane Hendzel and Sandra; Jim (Lorri) Hendzel; Mary (Tom) Schuurmans; John (Laurie) Hendzel; grandchildren, Chad (Toni) Hendzel; Bobbi Jo (Jeff) Mlnarik; Dawn (Michael) Plumb; Erin Vander Loop and fiancé, Justin Brumbaugh; Cody Hendzel; Amy (Dan) McNeely; Ashley (Dustin) Spink; Alex Oldakowski; Rachel and Vincent Hendzel; Nicole, Kaitlyn and Lindsay Schuurmans; great grandchildren, Dylan and Lauryn Hendzel; Gavin and Myah Jayne Mlnarik; Ethan and Matthew Plumb; and Noah Spink; brothers and sisters, Stella Paluch; Joan Nurczyk; Dora Sommers; Chet (Ronnie) Sommers; Pat Hendzel; Frank (Golda) Hendzel; Lorraine (Orv) Muck; and Eugene (Nancy) Hendzel brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Shirley Kunstman; Dale (Anita) Marks; and Sheri (Dennis) Gauthier. Edwin was preceded in death by his parents; father and mother-in-law Rhynold (Arlene) Marks; sister, Jean Baranczyk; brother, Ben Sommers; brother, Leonard Hendzel and numerous brothers and sisters-in-law.
