Sister Eileen Smits, CSJ (Sister Rita Bernard)
Member of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, died Sunday April 22, 2012.
Beloved daughter of Joseph and Laura (Terrien) Smits. Born in DePere, WI on March 23, 1935. She is survived by brother, Elwood (Laurel) Smits; sister-in-law, June Smits; brother-in-law, Earl Carter; many loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by brothers, Kenneth (Harriet); Jerome (Enola); Randall Smits; sisters, Ruth Smits; Rita (Smits) Carter.
She was a teacher to all who she met. She formally taught elementary and secondary school for many years, before she felt the call to the mission field. This is where she spent the last 25 years, as a missionary and teacher to her beloved people in Talca, Chile. The people in Talca became her family and it was her wish to be buried there.
A Memorial Mass will be held at The Old St. Joseph Church on the St. Norbert Campus. Father Gary Meehan officiating, Sunday June 3, 2012 at 2:00pm. Cremains to be buried in Talca, Chile.
