Aldon P.
Strei
Nov 23, 1938 — Oct 5, 2023
Aldon Paul Strei, 84, passed away peacefully at his home on October 5, 2023, with family by his side. He was born on November 23, 1938, to Arthur and Emma (Runge) Strei. He graduated from Shawano High School in 1957. On July 22, 1961, he married Janice (Vander Linden) at Christ Episcopal Church in Green Bay, WI.
Al began his working career in 1957 at the Green Bay Press-Gazette. In 1962, he was drafted into the US Army and served as the Supply NCO for the 9th Engineer Battalion in Aschaffenburg, Germany. Janice joined Al in Germany and they were fortunate to spend their free time traveling Europe.
After his honorable discharge from the Army, they returned to Green Bay and Al rejoined the Press-Gazette. He continued to work there until 1972 when he joined Montgomery Co., a real estate firm. He worked as a realtor for Montgomery ERA Realtors, ERA Titletown Realtors and finished his career with Mark Olejniczak Realty. It was an amazing career, spanning 50+ years that he thoroughly enjoyed. It was said there wasn't a street in the greater Green Bay area that didn't have a home either listed or sold by Al.
Volunteering was always special to Al. Among his many volunteer activities, he served on the board of directors of Scholarships, Inc., Rawhide, Inc., and participated in YMCA fund and membership drives over his career. He was active in the Green Bay Jaycees and was recognized as one of the top 5 outstanding young men of Wisconsin. In 1970, he joined the Optimist Club of Green Bay and became the director of the Green Bay Area Soap Box Derby. As director, the event grew to become one of the 10 largest local derbies in the nation. He enjoyed his time working with students from St. Joseph Orphanage building cars for racing.
He was an active member of St. Anne's Episcopal Church in De Pere.
Al always said: "The more you have to do, the more you will find yourself getting done. The busier you are, the more energy you will have. The greater the workload you carry, the more you find you can accomplish."
For the past 40 years, Al enjoyed his Friday morning prayer breakfast with four special friends that all became an important part of his life.
Al is survived by his wife Jan of 62 years; son Paul; five grandchildren, Jon, Alynsia and Jenna Strei and their mother Kendra Dellis; Jack and Megan Richard, son-in-law Mike Richard; brother Earl; brothers-in-law Terry (Diane) Vander Linden and Tom (Kelly) Vander Linden.
Al was preceded in death by his daughter Heidi Richard; parents Arthur and Emma (Runge) Strei; twin brother Allen, mother-in-law and father-in-law Wilbert and Leola (Daniels) Vander Linden; sisters-in-law, Julie (Dave) Rosenau and Roberta (Harvey) Traber.
Visitation will be held at St. Annes's Episcopal Church (347 S. Libal Street, De Pere, WI) on Saturday, October 14th from 1pm – 1:45pm. A funeral service will follow at 2:00pm.
Al's family would like to thank Unity Hospice, Comfort Keepers and the VA for their wonderful care.
