Obituary

Donald John Renard of Green Bay, WI. passed away peacefully Wednesday afternoon, March 1, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.

Don was born on October 28, 1938, the son of the late John and Arbella (Barrette) Renard and elder brother to Brian Renard.

Don graduated from SS Peter and Paul Elementary and Premontre High School where he formed lifelong friendships and met his beloved wife of almost 63 years, Sandra Radosevich. He attended St. Norbert's College prior to marrying Sandra in 1960 and the couple had three children. He is survived by his wife, Sandra Renard, his children Rick (Jean) Renard, Joel Renard, Andrea (David) Goldman, his grandchildren Alex (Megan) Renard, Kassie Renard, Max (Marin) Renard, Lily Goldman, Ben Goldman and Maddie Goldman. He is further survived by two great-grandchildren.

In 1963 Don and Sandra started their own custom machine shop, Renco Machine Company, in Green Bay. Don worked hard to support the growing manufacturing industry in Green Bay with quality machined parts. With Don's knowledge of the industry and Sandra's knack for business and numbers, Renco flourished. Don's charismatic personality helped him form real relationships with employees and customers. It was Don's genuine love for people that made Renco Machine a success. Today, Renco is a third-generation business owned by Rick Renard and his family.

From the very beginning, Don had a deep love of family, community, the outdoors and creative – if sometimes unconventional – problem solving. Whether that included manufacturing a state-of-the-art fish hatchery, building salmon boats in excess of 50 feet, or something as simple as a pontoon boat, carved fish or a playhouse for his grandchildren.

Giving back to the community that had supported him and his family was important to Don, and it was a value that he similarly inspired in his family, friends and those who worked with him. He was instrumental in the renovation of the Manger Lagoon at the Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary, donating thousands of trout each year so that people could share his passion for fishing, a tradition his family continues today. One of his favorite things to do was to watch the fish delivery and see the children enjoy their first catch. Don was also an active member of Ducks Unlimited.

Don was a man of faith, he was a member of St. Willebrord Catholic Parish, where he served as a Trustee and worshipped with his family every Sunday. He was also a founding board member of University Bank (Norwest/Wells Fargo).

As active as Don was in the community and in charitable contributions, he was quick to showcase the achievements of others and he had a natural ability to put everyone around him at ease with his quick sense of humor. Don was a passionate man with a huge heart. He loved sharing his passions with his family, friends, coworkers and strangers. Many of the people Don touched carry on this same tradition in his memory, Don would be proud of that.

Visitation will be held at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral from 9am-10:45am on Tuesday, March 7th. The funeral service will follow at 11am. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks anyone interested in furthering the memory of Don to donate to Friends of the Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary.
