Obituary

Donna Smurawa, 85, peacefully passed away at her home on July 17, 2026, with her husband by her side. Born on May 26, 1941, Donna was the oldest of five children of Bud (Bernard) and Evelyn Geurts. Her childhood home was in Bellevue, Wisconsin and she was a 1960 graduate of Preble High School. During her teens, she worked for Wetli Landscaping, and she often recalled fond memories working for the Wetli family. On a blind date in 1960, she met Ferdie Smurawa, the love of her life. They married on June 2, 1962, and spent the next 64 years together. They raised 5 children in Suamico, Wisconsin. While dedicating herself as a wife, mother, and homemaker, she also worked various jobs throughout her life. Early on, she succeeded at selling jewelry for Sarah Coventry. Later, she put her love of crafts to work, teaching macrame at American Handicrafts. She then was a Chiropractic Assistant in Green Bay for many years. Before retiring, she spent several years as a home care professional where she took care of elderly in their homes. She and Ferdie loved traveling and spending time with their children. When their children were young, they often would pack them in their car, and later a van, and tent camp in various places. In retirement, they traveled the states and took trips to Europe. And they spent several years as volunteers at a local food pantry.

Donna had a lifelong deep faith in Christ, praying daily and reading the Bible. She loved family, her children and grandchildren. Donna loved gardening, cooking, and crafts. She developed a passionate hobby for creating greeting cards which she mailed to her friends and family at every holiday and all their birthdays. She and Ferdie loved animals, particularly dogs and their home always had a pet dog. She really loved and adored their current dog, Molly.

Donna is survived by her husband, Ferdinand, five children, Todd (Rhonda), Troy (Lynette), Scott (Colleen), Stacey, and Craig (Kim), her brothers, Donnie and Duane, and her sister, Diane, her sister-in-law, Bernadine Smurawa, eleven grandchildren, several step grandchildren and several great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and her dog, Molly.

She is preceded in death by her parents Bernard and Evelyn Geurts (Verheyen), her brother Dale Geurts, sisters-in-law Karen Geurts (Donnie) and Patti Geurts (Donnie), father-in-law and mother-in-law John and Bernice (Branislawa Jankowski), Ferdie’s siblings Edward Smurawa, Arthur and Bernice Smurawa, Erwin and Lorraine Betley, Sister Geraldine Smurawa, Sister Elaine Smurawa, Joseph and Theresa Janowski, and John and Betsy Smurawa.
