Douglas "Homer"
Maes
Nov 9, 1963 — Dec 27, 2023
Douglas "Homer" Maes, 60, Howard, passed away unexpectedly on December 27, 2023, surrounded by his family. He was born in Green Bay on November 9th, 1963 to James and Sharon Maes, and was the first of four children. He attended Bay Port High School and graduated with the Class of 1982.
In 1983, Doug met the love of his life, Wendy; and was married on August 16, 1986. They later had two sons, Jerod and Ryan, whom he loved dearly.
Doug was proud to work for the Green Bay Packers for over 18 years as a Security Officer until his retirement in 2022. Highlights of his career included attending Super Bowl XLV, developing relationships with staff and players, and meeting fans who shared his passion for the Green & Gold.
Doug embodied what it meant to be a dad, and above all else, he cherished his family. During the summer he would spend his time at his home away from home, Kelly Lake, where he loved spending time with family, working on the cottage, and playing with his beloved grand-dogs: Stella, Ivy, and Harley.
Doug had a generous personality and was always there to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He loved working on projects in the garage, up north, or at one of his son's homes. In addition, he had a passion for landscaping and gardening.
When he wasn't busy with one of his projects, you could find him fishing, hunting, or taking his grand dogs for a long walk.
Doug never took time for granted and made the best of his time with his loved ones.
Doug is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Wendy; sons, Jerod Maes and Ryan (fiancé Brittanie) Maes; mother, Sharon Maes; siblings, Jalane (Michael) Stencil, Dennis (Mary) Maes, and Heather (Alan) Deutschendorf; parents-in-law, Don and Ileen Meyer; siblings-in-law, Dawn (Roger) Schmitz and Bob (Jamie) Meyer; nieces, nephews, and many more family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his father, James Maes, as well as his maternal and paternal grandparents.
