Edward J. Degeneffe, 89, Howard, passed away at a local hospital on Wednesday, April 26, 2017. He was born in Oconto on March 26, 1928 to the late Frank and Emma (Cota) Degeneffe. Ed served in the US Army in Korea, received his Bronze Stars and Combat Medic Badge and was honorably discharged. He married Romona Holl on June 13, 1953 at St. Philip Church in Green Bay. She preceded him in death on May 9, 1998. Ed was employed at Proctor & Gamble as a driver for 36+ years and retired in 1989. He also enjoyed working at Red Leaf Nursery. Ed was a longtime member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church where he served as an usher and was involved with the Athletic Club and many booyah events. He was a member of the Duck Creek Council #6279 Knights of Columbus where he was very active and served as an officer for many years. Ed and Romona also served their community for five years as founding members of the Emergency Rescue Squad of Howard-Suamico and belonged to the Bay Port Booster Club. Ed's hobbies included fishing and gardening. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He was especially close to his granddaughter and best friend Meghan. Ed enjoyed life and will be remembered by his funny sense of humor and wonderful stories.
Survivors include his sons, Dan, Howard; Donald (Missi), Howard; Dominic (Dan), Pennsylvania; grandchildren, Amber (Rick), Tawny (Ryan), Whitney, Zachary (Jill), Nathanial (Heather), Melinda (John), Meghan (Joseph); great grandchildren, Liam; Nicholas; Roman and Alayna; Gryffon, William, Noah; Grayson; sister-in-law, Nellie (Reinolda) Holl. Further survived by many other relatives and friends.
Ed was preceded in death by his wife, Romona; son, David; his parents; brothers and sisters, Lee, Ivan, Ora, Orville, Myrtle, Willard, Ethel, Evelyn, Germaine, Francis, Joyce.
Family and friends may call at the Pfotenhauer Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Howard-Suamico location, 1145 Cardinal Lane, on Monday, May 1, 2017 from 4 until 7:00 p.m. Knights of Columbus/Parish prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation continues on Tuesday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 2561 Glendale Ave., Howard, from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial 10:30 a.m. with the Rev.
