Eugene “Gene” L. Wagner, born on October 2, 1936, in the Advance and Zachow area of Wisconsin, passed away peacefully at the age of 89. He was the beloved son of Walter and Eunice Wagner and brother to his sister, Nancy. Gene was raised on the family farm located northwest of Pulaski, where he learned the values of hard work, dedication, and community from an early age.

He began his education at Advance Grade School and continued at Well Haven School in Frazer Corners. One of Gene’s fond childhood memories was visiting Schroeder’s store across the street from school, where a five-cent ice cream cone or a pint for just twenty-five cents brought simple joys to his early days.

Gene later attended Pulaski High School while continuing to help with the family’s farming duties. He also took on several part-time jobs during this time, including positions at Carver Boat and Peplinski Home Store—early examples of the strong work ethic that would define his life.

During the John F. Kennedy era, Gene was called to serve his country and was stationed on active duty at Fort Lewis, Washington, for nearly a year. After his military service, he began his life time career at the United States Postal Office, where he worked faithfully until his retirement.

In his leisure, Gene found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He especially loved downhill skiing in the beautiful landscapes of Colorado, working on cars, and participating in various community activities. These moments brought him happiness and connection, and he valued them deeply.

Gene was always grateful for the kindness of others and the presence of God’s love in his life. He expressed heartfelt thanks to all who extended their care, friendship, and compassion throughout his journey.

He will be remembered fondly for his quiet strength, generous spirit, and the steady warmth he brought into the lives of those who knew him.

A visitation will be held at Pfotenhauer Funeral Home Howard-Suamico, 1145 Cardinal Lane, on Friday, July 24, from 10:00am to 12:00pm with lunch to follow. Continuing the celebration of Gene’s life.
