Everett O.
Marks
Aug 29, 1936 — Aug 10, 2022
Everett Otto Marks died peacefully at his family property doing what he loved on Wednesday, August 10 th , after battling with Interstitial Lung disease (ILD). He was born August 29, 1936, to Otto and Mayme (Bloedorn) Marks.
At a very young age, Everett was infected with polio and spent many months alone in a Milwaukee hospital making him a very tough, determined man. As a young man, he started cleaning fish for Lyle Valentine and eventually became a partner and started his own commercial fishing business. Everett enjoyed water skiing on the river in front of his childhood home and duck hunting on the lower Green Bay.
Everett graduated from Green Bay West High School in 1954. While enjoying his passion for fishing, duck hunting, snowmobiling and fast cars, Everett started purchasing new Pontiacs regularly, as well as a few Buicks.
In 1963, he met Carolyn DeBaker at the Palm Gardens in Champion, WI. They married on July 2, 1966, at St. Louis church in Dykesville, WI. Three years later, they had their only son, Joe Marks. Everett worked at Fort Howard Paper Company and at the same time he was commercial fishing with his brother, Eugene Marks. They built the Marks Brothers Fish Company which became one of the largest perch fishing companies in Suamico.
Everett also enjoyed traveling with family and friends to many locations including Montana, Seattle, Alaska, Hawaii, and Las Vegas. He also belonged to the Knight Riders snowmobile club, building trails and friendships with many people in the Howard Suamico area. He was also a member of the Howard Suamico Optimist Club.
After 29 years, he retired from Fort Howard Paper Company, where he then enjoyed his time gardening, perch fishing, and spending time at the lake with his wife and Roger and Sheila DeBaker (brother & sister in law). He would also spend winters with them, and Neal and Sue DeBaker in Marco Island, Florida.
Everett spent his later years "playing around with firewood", as he would say. He loved talking with lifelong friends and new friends as he sold the firewood and shared his bountiful harvest of tomatoes.
Despite what some would claim as a handicap in having contracted polio, Everett never let it affect his ability to work hard, provide for his family, and become a very well respected man in the community. He will be forever loved and missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years Carolyn (DeBaker) Marks, his son Joseph and wife Michele Marks, grandson Griffin Marks, sister Darlene Paul, and multiple brother and sister in laws, nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Mayme Marks, an infant sister, his brother Eugene Marks, brother in law Al Paul, and his father and mother in law Alvin and Clara DeBaker.
A special thank you to Jeff for being there.
