Obituary

Frederick James Karpeck passed away surrounded by his family on Easter Sunday, April 9, 2023. He was born October 20, 1947 to Fred & Evelyn (Henson) Karpeck in Milwaukee, WI.  He grew up there, graduating from Greenfield High in 1965 and earned his postgraduate degree in mechanical drafting soon after.  He enlisted in the army in 1969 where he served as an avionic mechanic with the 92nd Aviation Company. After three tours in Vietnam he was honorably discharged.  On December 12, 1970 he married the love of his life, Patricia Anne Weslow. From there he joined the family plumbing business, and he and Pat started building a family together.

Fred took great pride in his work as a master plumber and was diligent and meticulous with each job. He was known for his generosity and big heart- he was always willing to give his time and his resources.  He was very active in church (St. John the Baptist in Howard, WI), helping with music, the church picnic and various fundraisers. He also volunteered with the Boy Scouts and the local chapter of the Knights of Columbus. Fred and Pat were very involved with Marriage Encounter, coaching others to treasure the sacred bond of marriage as much as they did.  Though not without its challenges, their marriage had a profound and lasting effect on their children.  Fred loved spending time with his family, playing cards or dice with his kids, long weekends at the lake and fishing with his wife. He was a lifelong Packer fan, eternally optimistic that "they could make it to the SuperBowl" pretty much every year.  He enjoyed music, cooking, and yard work.  He was infamous for his sense of humor, more likely due to the delivery than the quality of the joke itself.  Fred loved his country, his family, and his Lord with all he had, right up to the very end of his life.

He is preceded in death by his parents Fred & Evelyn Karpeck; his father & mother-in-law, Harold & Irene Weslow; and two brothers-in-law, Skip Stein and Jerry Weslow. He is survived by his beautiful bride of 52 years, Pat; his son, Aaron Karpeck; daughters Michelle (Michael) Zuber, Theresa (Aaron) Hamous, Vicki Karpeck (fiancee Michael Christens); and Cathi (Michael) Oreto. He is also survived by his grandchildren Alexis, Blake, Isaac, Jaymison, Amanda, Stephani and Brendan; sister Kaye Stein, brother-in-law Tom (Shelley) Weslow and sister-in-law Mary Weslow, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 18th at 11 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church in Howard, WI (2597 Glendale Ave) with Fr. James Lucas presiding.  A memorial visitation will be held directly prior to the mass at 10 a.m.  Per Fred's wishes, he will be cremated.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the DAV (Disabled American Veterans) at https://www.dav.org/donate or by mail: 1253 Scheuring Rd. Ste A, De Pere, WI, 54115.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Fred's nurse Shelly, the staff of St. Vincent's Hospital who took such good care of him at the end, and the close friends he had who encouraged his determination.
