Obituary

Gary James Simon, 68, Howard, departed this life on January 3, 2019 after battling cancer for many years. His family spent a lot of time loving and supporting him, especially through these last few months. Gary was born December 21, 1950 in Green Bay, the first of five children, to the proud parents of Fern and Lloyd Simon.

Gary started grade school at West Lake Side (two rooms and an outhouse) in Suamico. He was a Cub Scout, Altar Boy at St. Benedict's Catholic Church, and a Boy Scout under Scout Master Bill Vickery. He graduated from Bay Port High School in 1969, and attended Marquette University the following two years. Gary spent 34 years employed as an Electrician at Megtec Systems, where he retired in 2013. He was also a very active member of the Young Professionals Organization for 10 years.

Gary was always available to lend a helping hand to his friends and family; whether it be to lend a hand in a dispute, drive a U-Haul to Homer Alaska, to being at a friend's side as she fought her battle with diabetes. He was always there to help his Mom who became disabled several years ago.

One of Gary's passions was riding his BMW motorcycle, many times with no destination in mind .. unless it was to find a good bowl of chili. He was especially happy when one of his brothers would ride with him.

Gary is survived by his mother, Fern (Skog) Simon; brothers and sisters, Michael (Wanda) Simon, Diana (Ron) Tortelli, Richard (Teri) Simon and Barbara (Gary) Timmerman; Aunts Eunice Craanen and Jean Simon; and many nieces, nephews and friends. His father, Lloyd Simon, preceded him in death.

Our sincere and heartfelt gratitude to his caregivers, especially the staff of Unity Hospice in DePere for their excellent care, compassion and support.

Per Gary's wishes, there will not be any formal services. His wish was for a "celebration of life", which will be held at the Just One More Bar & Grill, 740 N. Memorial Drive in Howard on Saturday, January 12 from 1:00 to 4:00pm.
