Obituary

Gerald "Jerry" Glen Matthews, 84, passed away on October 1, 2023, at home. He was born in Superior, WI, on February 17, 1939, to the late Glen L. and Grace G. Matthews. He grew up and played sports at Superior East High School, graduated in 1957.

Jerry served in the United States Navy from 1957 – 1963, active duty. He was a member of American Legion Post #518, Duck Creek, Green Bay, WI. He was also a member of Masonic Lodge Arcacia and Itasca #329, Superior, WI; AAD Shrine Temple, Duluth, MN; and Beja Shrine Temple, Green Bay, WI. Jerry worked in the sheet metal trade for 34 years. He was a journeyman sheet metal man with Sheet Metal Local #18 of WI. He retired in June of 1999.

Jerry loved all sports, either competing or watching them. He enjoyed bowling and golfing with his wife, Bunny, and friends. He is survived by his wife, Janice C.W. Matthews and her family; son, Steven G. Matthews and stepson, Michael W. (Denise) Matthews; daughter, Wendy (Jim) Madden; 7 grandchildren, Elizabeth, Cailyn, and Colton Matthews, Rylee and Raegen Matthews, and Neve and Peri Madden; brother, Greg (Sheila) Matthews; sister, Georgia Ann (Edward) Hinsa; and many more family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Gail (Swede) Armstrong.

There will not be any formal services at this time. Jerry will be laid to rest at Green Valley Cemetery with a private, family committal service.
