Obituary

Harold J. Pfotenhauer, 91, longtime Howard resident, was received into the arms of the Lord on Monday, May 8 th , 2023. He was born April 4 th , 1932 in Menominee, MI, to the late Harold Sr. and Mary (Olzewski) Pfotenhauer.

Harold graduated in 1950 from Menominee High School. That was when he met the love of his life, 1948, Geraldine Coble at the M & M High School Football game. They were eventually married on November 8, 1952, Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. They lived in Menominee, MI, along with their six children until 1972 before moving to Howard, WI (Duck Creek). Harold attended Northern Michigan School of Banking, UW Green Bay and Worsham College of Mortuary of Science, Chicago, IL.

Harold served in the United States Air Force beginning in 1952 before being honorably discharged to care for his father. He then served the rest of his term in the Reserves. He was a proud representative of all veterans. His family funeral home had the honor of being the sole corporate media sponsor with ABC as a partner in the series, 'Return to Vietnam' (49 th Old Glory Honor Flight.) He was also a founding and past commander of the American Legion Suburban Green Bay Post 518. He and his wife Geraldine were the proud founders of his family business, Pfotenhauer Funeral Home and Cremation Services, founded in 1978.

Harold made many strides in his community of the Village of Howard and Brown County. He was the founder and past E.M.T. of the Howard-Suamico Emergency Rescue Squad, Inc; member of the first board of directors of the Green Bay Packer Hall of Fame; founder, past president, and member of the Howard-Suamico Business and Professional Association; charter member of the Howard-Suamico Optimists; honorary life member of the Knights of Columbus a 3 rd degree Duck Creek Council #6279, 4 th degree St. Jude Assembly #1724, 3 rd degree Ss. Edward and Isidore Council #10260; recipient of the 2017 Howard – Suamico Lions Club Outstanding Citizen award;. Member of the Retired Men's Club Green Bay; member of the Green Bay Community Service Club; past member of the Board of Directors Brown County Health Department; past WFDA convention photographer; member of The National Funeral Directors Association.

In his spare time, he enjoyed family outings; assisting at AirAdventure Oshkosh with P.O.P. (Protect our Planes) and Warbird Security; camping, fishing, sailing and photography.

Harold is survived by his beautiful and loving wife of 70 years, Geraldine "Gerry" Pfotenhauer; 6 children, Sally Ann Pfotenhauer and Debbie Kupka; Michael Pfotenhauer; Jennifer Pfotenhauer; Robert and Mary Jo Pfotenhauer; Barbara and George Buntin, Andrew and Laurie Pfotenhauer; 3 grandchildren, Aubrey and Steve Winters, Adam and Kimberly Pfotenhauer, Emily Burkel and fiancé, Cory Phillips; 3 great-grandchildren, Alaina and Ava Pfotenhauer, Spencer Winters; sister-in-law, Alice Lynwood; numerous nieces and nephews, special family friends, Sharon and Glenn Weycker and family, Shirley Neu, Randy Wietor and Wally Wengrzyn.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his only sibling, Grace, his mother and father-in-law; 7 sisters-in-law and 3 brothers-in-law; numerous cousins.

Harold will be held in repose at Pfotenhauer Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Howard - Suamico location, 1145 Cardinal Lane, on Thursday, May 11 th , from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM (no family will be present; a register and card drop will be available for those wishing to simply pay final respects). Visitation will continue Friday, May 12 th , rosary service 3:00 PM, visitation to follow from 4:00 PM to 6:30 PM, closing prayer service 7:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial 11:00 am Saturday, May 13 th , St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 2597 Glendale Ave, Howard. Funeral procession to St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Howard, to conclude with US Air Force Military Honors.
