Obituary

Helen (Veriha) Padgett, age 94, 445 Cardinal Ln, Apt# 419, Green Bay, WI, was called to her eternal rest on Friday morning, July 23, 2021, at home. Helen was born in Porterfield, WI, on June 16, 1927, to the daughter of the late Felix and Helen Veriha. On January 10, 1948, Helen was united in marriage to Russell Padgett at St. Mary's Church in Crivitz, WI. He preceded her in death on June 14, 2011.

Helen's occupations included farming with her husband in the village of Loomis, WI, and working in cleaning maintenance at Wisconsin Public Service Corporation for many years and, most recently, at Wal-Mart Super Center in Green Bay, from where she retired in 2007. Helen was a longtime member of St. Patrick Church, Green Bay, then at St. Agnes, and lastly at St. John's in Howard. She enjoyed traveling, watercolor painting, sewing, baking, decorating cakes, gardening, playing cards, exercising at the "Y", and was a great mom and homemaker. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who was always there to help her children and to care for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren whenever needed. Helen was a very special and strong person who enjoyed life and was never daunted by whatever pitfalls life threw her way. She was appreciated and loved dearly by her family and will be sadly missed by everyone who knew her.

Helen is survived by: 8 children—Elena (Randall) Lewis, Suamico; Sandra (Richard) Vandenberg, Stillwater, MN; Linda (Francis) Van Niewenhoven, Green Bay; Janice (Tom) Werdeo, Wausaukee; David (Leanne) Padgett, Green Bay; Daniel (Susan) Padgett, Sobieski; Karen (Chris) Deneys, Green Bay; Jennie Lavaque, Green Bay; 16 grandchildren—Bryan & Brandon Lewis, Alison, Kristin, & Brant Vandenberg; Joshua & Jake Van Niewenhoven; Justin Demoulin, Chelsey Jerabek; Blayne Dequaine, Dylen & Tia Padgett; Jared, Megan, & Dalton Stritzel; Sully Lavaque; 5 great-grandchildren—Noah Lewis, Henry Jones, Michaela Hansen, Jacob Van Niewenhoven, Simon Van Niewenhoven; Isla Vandenberg; Sora Vandenberg; sisters-in-law—Diana Veriha, Georgie Veriha; and many nieces, nephews, and great nieces/nephews. She was preceded in death by: parents—Felix & Helen Veriha; brothers & sisters-in-law—Anthony & Lottie Veriha; Joseph & Helen Veriha; Anne & Matthew Zepka; John Veriha; Stanley Veriha; Bruno Veriha.

The family will receive friends at the Pfotenhauer Funeral Home Howard location, 1145 Cardinal Lane, Green Bay, WI (Tel. 920-434-2060) on Tuesday, 7/27/2021 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. and at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 2597 Glendale Ave., (one quarter mile east of the corner of Cardinal Ln. and Glendale Ave. Entrance directly across from BP gas station on Glendale.) on Wednesday, 7/28/2021 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m.; a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev.
