Obituary

James (Jim) Joseph Kurowski, 85, passed away at home on February 23, 2022, with devoted family by his side. Jim was born on May 16, 1936, to the late Carl Sr. and Frances (Peer) Kurowski in Green Bay. After high school and working for a few years, Jim enlisted in the United States Army, serving his country from 1957-1960. He was also a Korean War veteran. In 1961, Jim met Sandy Kobielak on a blind date where it was love at first sight. They were married within a year on February 10, 1962, at St. Willebrord's Church in Green Bay. Jim and Sandy recently celebrated their 60 year wedding anniversary together.

Jim was an Iron Worker and a proud union member of Local 8, Milwaukee. Not long ago, he received a 55-year union membership pin. Jim never missed an opportunity to be outdoors. He had a love of hunting, fishing, and camping with family and his friends. He had a large collection of deer antlers and there was never a shortage of fishing and hunting stories to be told. Jim had a passion for football, especially watching the Packers, completing home improvement projects, and watching classic westerns. He adored his children and grandchildren, always taking the time to teach and share life skills through his patient and kind-hearted personality.

Jim's presence was always accompanied by his charm and quick wit. He brought a smile or chuckle to those around him time and time again. Those who knew Jim can recall his escapades of sneaking into the original field of Packer games at East High School. Jim had a stylish hat collection that complimented his wardrobe and was often told he looked "spiffy." Jim lived for his family and gave himself selflessly to those around him. His strong sense of perseverance emanated and his courage never wavered in his toughest days.

Survivors include his loving wife of 60 years, Sandy; daughters, Debbie (Dr. Tim) Meyer of Door County and Brenda (Matt) Mitten of Chicago; son, Tom Kurowski of Green Bay; grandchildren, Trent (Casey) Meyer of Wrightstown and Michaela Meyer of Howard; great grandchild, Dominic Meyer; brothers, Wally (Jolene) Kurowski and Rick (Verna) Kurowski; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and many beloved brothers, sisters, and friends.

In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family requests a donation to the American Cancer Society in honor of Jim. The family would like to extend their sincerest thank you to Northwestern University Robert H. Lurie Cancer Center, HSHS St. Vincent Home Health, and Unity Home Hospice for their superior care.
