Obituary

Jeanette Katherine Prue passed away at home on August 10, 2023. Born on January 27, 1929, in Oconto, WI to Charles and Minnie DeWindt, she was raised on a farm where she learned the value of a dollar, hard work, and the rules of sheepshead.

Jeanette married Leonard Louis Prue Jr on February 12, 1944, and had eight children. While the family grew, mom and dad moved to the bustling milltown, Gary, IN. Mom took a part time job at a local pizzeria and us kids reaped the benefits of hot cheesy pizza for midnight snacks. Mostly, mom was a homemaker. She cooked up hot meals and baked fresh cakes and cookies. Signature Poppyseed Cake was a birthday staple and holidays were a feast. Her homemade jam filled all our cupboards, and her banana bread recipe will be shared for generations.

In 1981, mom accompanied her granddaughter, Christina Prue, on a church bus which led to her salvation and love for our Lord Jesus Christ.

Dad retired in 1987 and they moved back to Wisconsin and settled in Green Bay. While here, they tirelessly volunteered at Paul's Pantry for well over 20 years.

Mom enjoyed cards, camping, and walking. She'd corral whoever was willing to play cribbage, sheepshead, or rap poker. She won constantly! Some say she cheated, others say she was lucky, but it was the family that was lucky and blessed to have her with them. Now, with God's promise (John 3:16) she lives an everlasting life in heaven with Jesus and all His followers.

She is survived by children Melvin Prue, Karen (George) Bunnell, Bruce (Julie) Prue, Dolly Cerda, Dotty Prue, Suzie Prue, Keith (Jane) Prue, 19 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband Leonard Louis Prue Jr, daughter Penny Kolivas, granddaughter Charity Prue, grandson Eric Bunnell, great-grandson Donovan Campbell, daughter-in-law Cheryl Prue, son-in-law Manuel Cerda, siblings Marion Walls, Ethelwyn Mortier, Leonna Petiniot, Laurna Hayes, Betty Meverden, Orville DeWindt, and Marvin DeWindt.

A viewing and visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 15, from 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM at Pfotenhauer Funeral Home & Cremation Services, East Town location. A funeral service will immediately follow at 6:00 PM.

The family would like to thank the Hospice team along with all the caregivers that supported Keith Prue in keeping mom comfortable during her last years.
