John Edward "Big John" Tilly, 85 was born April 2, 1936 to Fred and Irene (LaRock) Tilly. He was a longtime resident of Suamico, WI and left this earth peacefully in his sleep after a struggle with complications of dementia on April 18, 2021.
John attended West High School, graduating in 1954. Shortly after graduation, John began working at Alwin Manufacturing and would continue to do so until his retirement with a break to serve 2 years in the Army when drafted in 1958. John married Beverly (Fieck) Tilly on February 4, 1961. They celebrated 56 years together before Bev's passing January 20, 2018.
John held part time jobs as a used car salesman. He began at Van's Honda and various other dealerships through the years. He especially enjoyed working with Denny Daenen at Parkview Auto. John's gift of "BS" came in handy when making conversation for those shopping for a vehicle that turned into a hobby and time out for a few hours a week.
John enjoyed riding motorcycle in his earlier years then his bicycle and was an avid walker right up to the days before his passing. He especially loved attending car shows with his son Steve and being included in the garage gatherings which included his favorite beverage and food; beer and hamburgers.
John is survived by his daughter, Laurie (Richard) Toellner; son Steve Tilly; grandchildren, Nicholas and Cassandra Toellner (Josh Krueger/fiancé); brother Robert Tilly; brothers-in-law, Wilbur (Marge) Fieck and Herman Knuppel; sisters-in-law, Vicki Fieck, Theresa Fieck and many nieces and nephews.
John is preceded in death by his brothers-in-law, Charles, Richard (Virginia), Gary and Paul Fieck and sisters-in-law Sheri Tilly and Doris Knuppel.
Family and friends may call at Pfotenhauer Funeral Home, Howard location, 1145 Cardinal Lane, on Wednesday, April 28, 2021 from 5 until 7:00 p.m. A closing prayer will follow at 7:00 with Military Presentation. The family would like to extend gratitude to entire staff at New Perspectives - The Betty's Memory Care and Unity Hospice for his care. John liked to make the staff smile with a goofy face or sound effect he was known so well for. Big John you will be greatly missed!
