Obituary

John V. Defenderfer, 82, Village of Howard, passed away on August 28, 2015. He was born in Edinburgh, IN, on April 25, 1933 to the late Rev. C. Robert & Edna Davis Defenderfer. John was an Eagle Scout, a Mason and a Shriner. He graduated from Green Bay West in 1951 and then attended UW-Madison and the University of Minnesota-School of Architecture. John worked for architectural firms in Madison, Sheboygan, Green Bay and Iron Mountain and ultimately managed his own firm. He became a WI Registered Architect in 1965. During his career, he designed over 300 public, commercial and residential buildings. Since 1991, he enjoyed sailing his boat, "Freyja", with friends and family on the waters of Green Bay. He fondly remembered his golden retriever, Koko. John enjoyed wood working, hunting, family genealogy and passionate study of US politics, history and his Lutheran faith. John was preceded in death by his wife Catherine on 11/15/14. Survivors include his son, Eric (Jennifer) Defenderfer and their children, Ellen and Sarah, of Brighton, MI; daughter, Kristin J. Mickle and her children, Tess and Quinn, of Green Bay; sister, Anne (Gerald) Mattern of De Pere and their children Anne Margaret Sato, David Mattern, Johanna Mattern-Allen and Phillip Mattern. Visitation is planned for 1-2 PM at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 1700 Cardinal Lane, Howard, on Sunday, September 6th, followed by a Memorial Service at 2 PM with Pastor VanKampen officiating.
