Obituary

Kathleen "Katie" Peters was called home to her Lord on January 22, 2024. Kathleen, born on September 6, 1932, was the fourth of eight children of Vincent and Elvira (Marks) Pelegrin. Katie was a proud life-long resident of Suamico, Wisconsin. She attended Tremble School for 8 years and graduated from Green Bay West Class of 1950. On August 25, 1951 she married Richard (Red) Peters at St. Benedict's Church in Suamico. Katie and Red lovingly raised six children and worked endlessly building their small family trucking company, to the excavation firm, Red's Excavating.

Katie will be remembered for drawing family together at Christmas celebrations, monthly birthday parties with her sisters and sisters-in-law, and the decades of booyah parties she hosted. Katie was a charter member and officer of the Suamico Elementary PTA, the Howard-Suamico Business Association, and Bay Port Band Parents' Organization. In the 60s, Katie started the Suamico Women's Softball League when her daughter lamented that girls needed sports, too. Katie was a regular attendee at Suamico Town meetings and was thrilled when the town became the Village of Suamico. She and Red were charter members of the Howard-Suamico Optimist Club because the organization was about helping kids.

Katie was an organist at St. Benedict's Catholic Church, where she also taught CCD and served as a parish council member. Katie was a piano accompanist for high-school soloists and numerous times visited classrooms at Suamico Elementary and Bay Harbor Elementary, where she spoke about being a farm kid in the "good-ol'-days". In summer, Katie and Red traversed the state with Red's Diggers, the softball team they sponsored. They also planted separate gardens and competed to harvest the first ripe tomato of the summer.

Katie walked daily to church and even walked the opening of the Tower Bridge. She and Red wintered in Arizona with their travel-home and took many trips to Branson and Vegas. She was a secretary and weekly golfer of the Village Green Ladies' League. Katie also loved her bridge club.

Kathleen is survived by her loving children, Susan (Robert Nichols) Peters, Carol (Thomas) Bartlein, Debra (Steven) Schenkoske, Mark (Jane) Peters, Michael (Susan) Peters, Russ (Laurie Krautkramer) Peters; 12 adoring grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, her remaining sibling, Florence (Donald) Banaszak; her sisters-in-law Sandy Alicia, Sharon Pelegrin, Hazel Pelegrin; and countless admiring nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

She was proceeded in death by her best friend and husband Richard (Red) Peters; her parents, Elvira and Vincent Pelegrin; her grandson John Peters; her step-mother Wilhelmina Pelegrin; her brothers Giles Pelegrin, James Pelegrin and Joseph Pelegrin; her sisters, Roseanne Wygralak, Mary Jean Sheedy and Marcia Bredell; her brothers-in-law Joseph Wygralak, Robert Sheedy and Darrel Bredell.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 30, at St. Benedict Catholic Church, 3370 Deerfield Lane, Suamico, from 9:30 AM – 12:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow at 12:00 PM. Katie will be laid to rest St. Benedict Cemetery.

Katie's children would like to extend a sincere thanks to the caregivers at New Perspectives Living Facility and Tara, Laurie, Sue and Karen from Unity Hospice who tenderly cared for their mother until the end. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Howard Suamico Optimist Club in the name of Kathleen Peters.
