Kenneth Ray Krueger, 87, of Green Bay, passed away unexpectedly on April 2, 2016, and went to eternal peace with the Lord. He was born April 2, 1929 in a rural area near Medford, WI to Raymond and Elsie (Krug) Krueger.
He graduated from Medford High in 1946 and worked for and received a teaching certificate from Taylor County Normal in 1948. He taught grades 1-8 for 8 years; there were over 40 pupils in his class some of the time. Over half of the class was Amish. After 3 years of teaching, he married Marilyn in 1951. They had 3 children. Ken moved to Lublin where he was teacher of the 8 th grade and principal. During his years while in Lublin, he loved to play baseball. He then moved to Marinette and taught 5 th graders for 3 years.
After many years of correspondence, night, Saturday and summer classes, Ken earned his Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education in 1959 at UW Stevens Point. He then moved to Green Bay in 1960 where he taught the 5 th grade at Elmore for 6 years. During that period, he was President of the N.E.W. Education Assn.
In 1965, Ken earned his Masters Degree in Educational Administration from UW Madison. In 1966, Ken became principal of Wequiock and Roosevelt. In 1970, he moved to Jefferson where he planned for the new Helen Keller School, an open concept school, which opened in 1971. Ken continued to serve as principal of Helen Keller until 1985. He then topped off his career with a 4 year tour of duty at Chappell. Special assignments and honors included being chairman of the Outdoor Education Program and Social Studies Committee.
Ken and Marilyn enjoyed retirement, being with their 7 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren, participating in retired teachers' groups, golfing, bowling, traveling, playing cards, doing suduku puzzles and reading. He also loved to go to any sport activities his grandchildren and great grandchildren were involved in. He was also an avid Packer fan and enjoyed going to the games.
They belong to Calvary Lutheran Church. Ken was also a Sunday school superintendent and served on the church council. He belonged to the retired mens club for many years and volunteered at St. Vincent DePaul and delivered meals on wheels.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his mother/father-in-law, his brother Fred, 3 sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law and 2 nieces.
He will be sadly missed by his wife Marilyn; their 3 children, Sherry Hawley (Ron Rosenau), Watersmeet, MI; Kim (Joy) Krueger, Sparta, WI; Michael (Lisa) Krueger, Green Bay; grandchildren, Brian Gierczak; Kelly (Andrew) DeGrave; Jared (Rachel) Krueger; Joel Krueger; Elsie Krueger; Kent (Erin Butterfield) Krueger; Kelsey (Cory Ellis) Krueger; eight great grandchildren, Jordan DeGrave; Layla and Payton Krueger; Gage Krueger and Mason; Chance and Havyn Krueger; Ryker Ellis; brothers-in-law, Jim and Jerry Prell; Gene Krug; sisters-in-law, Nancy Nelson; Pat Prell; Virge Thiel; Gloria Krug; many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 1 until 4:00 on Thursday, April 7, 2016 at Calvary Lutheran Church, 1301 S Ridge Road, with funeral services to follow with Rev. Earl Vorpagel officiating. Entombment will be at the Good Shepherd Mausoleum. Online condolences welcome at www.PfotenhauerFuneralHome.com
