Obituary

Kenneth Norman Smith, 55, of De Pere, WI, went to be with his Lord on May 18, 2023 with his loving wife and stepson, Andrew, by his side. Ken was born at Wadsworth Rittman Hospital, Rittman, OH on August 28, 1967. Ken grew up in Sterling, OH and lived in that vicinity until 2004 when he moved to Wisconsin. He married the love of his life, Penny Smith (Hanna), on October 2, 2010, in De Pere, WI.

Ken was dedicated to his faith in God. His greatest passion was to read and study the Bible and spent countless hours over several decades doing so. Ken enjoyed working and had an interesting career path. His first job was as a farmhand starting at age 14. He worked a factory job for 2 years before he was sworn in with the Wayne County Sherriff's office as a Deputy in January 1989. He ambitiously grew in his career as a Deputy until November 1996 when he entered the trucking industry, initially as a driver for Schneider. He then worked as a trainer, recruiter, and then management for the remainder of his career. He was with Schneider for 21 years and finished up his career with Bison USA (formerly HO Wolding).

He was consistently dedicated, loyal, and hard-working. Ken's leadership style and strong conviction to adhere to the statement, "Always do the right thing, and it will be right.", permeated his work and personal life. He was a humble, honorable man of great integrity who put God at the center of what he said and did. He deeply loved his wife and children and held all the amazing memories close to his heart, especially hanging out on the patio, traveling with Penny, and the ATV adventures with his sons and family.

Ken is survived by his wife Penny Smith (Hanna) of De Pere, WI; mother, Esta Smith (Clark) of Smithville, OH; children, Kevin Wise and Clayton Smith, both of Wooster, OH, Evelyn Collier, of Redmond, WA and Andrew Collier, of Beaufort, SC; mother-in-law, Jane Hanna; brother-in-law, Paul Hanna (Brenda); sisters-in-law, Jenny Hanna and Jamie Fonder (Jason); all of Green Bay, WI; a special niece, Jessica Godfrey (Adam), of Wooster, OH, nieces, nephews and Copper, his beloved dog. He was preceded in death by his father, Hurl Smith, his sister, Geraldine Price (Smith) and father-in-law, Alvin Hanna, Jr.

Visitation will be Thursday, May 25, 2023, from 12pm-2pm at Morris Funeral Home, (79 Bridge Street, Wayne, WV) Funeral at 2pm, and Burial at Community Memorial Gardens, to follow. The funeral will be streamed via Facebook Live through this link: https://www.facebook.com/MorrisFuneral?mibextid=ZbWKwL .
