Larry D.
Deloria
Jan 12, 1940 — Nov 7, 2021
Larry Deloria, age 81, passed away on November 7 at Tender Hearts Memory Care facility in Green Bay. Larry was born in Stambaugh, Michigan, on January 12, 1940, to Lucille and Laurence Deloria. He was raised in Iron River and graduated from Iron River High School in 1957. He married his high school sweetheart, Marie Tarnowski, on July 12, 1958, and they were wed for 56 years until Marie's death in 2014.
With his very distinctive voice, Larry's early career was in radio, but he found his true passion when he started working at TV6 in Marquette. He loved hosting the Jerry Lewis and March of Dimes telethons, writing and producing commercials for UP businesses, and writing the UPSides. After 38 years, he retired as Director of Creative Services.
For many years Larry was a member of the Knights of Columbus and was a eucharistic minister and lector at St. John the Evangelist Church in Ishpeming. He coached Little League for four years and was an avid life-long reader. He enjoyed deer hunting but later discovered the joys of turkey hunting. He also loved fishing, especially with his grandchildren.
Larry is survived by his children, Chris Mason, Sue (Don) Hermanson, and Dave (Terry) Deloria, his grandchildren Quinn Mason, Amy Hermanson (Dan Morris), Jennifer Hermanson, Beth (Gabe) Meyer, and David, Lauren and Emily Deloria, great-granddaughters Ivy Cruz, and Lilly, Hartley and Christine Meyer, numerous nieces and nephews, and special friends Don and Jane Ryan. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Marie, brother Earl Brooks, and sisters Virginia Torretti and Eileen Stoychoff.
In keeping with Larry's wishes, a small private ceremony with his family will be held at a later time.
The family would like to thank the staff at Tender Hearts and Heartland Hospice for their care and compassion. For those who wish, please consider making a donation in Larry's name to the Alzheimer's Association or the Ishpeming Carnegie Library.
