Obituary

Laura (Maddix) Van De Ven, 60 of Green Bay, passed away peacefully on August 28, 2024. Laura "Lori" was born to the late Dolores (Willems) McCourt and James Maddix on January 18, 1964. After being raised in Green Bay, she married James Van De Ven. She had 3 children: Adam, Alex and Nathan. She was a grandmother of 4: Anna, Beckett, Asher, and Blakely. In addition to immediate family, she cared for and touched the lives of many extended family and friends, many of whom spent much time under her care.

More than anything else, Laura loved children. Whether it be her children, grandchildren, or children of connected family and friends, she made everyone feel special. Her love was unconditional and complete. Her door was always open to everyone for coffee, cards, or conversation. She passes on a legacy of love and care that will continue to live on through the many lives she touched.

In addition to her family and children, Laura loved animals. She loved telling funny stories about her two dogs and taking them for daily walks. She was always willing to take in an animal and happy to help "pet-sit" other's furry friends.

Laura proudly worked as a carrier at the post office in Green Bay before retiring after a career of 25 years. The family has fond memories as she worked alongside 4 of her brothers and sisters during this time.

Survivors include her three children: Adam (Lindsay) Van De Ven, Alex (Kejel) Van De Ven, and Nathan Van De Ven; 4 grandchildren: Anna, Beckett, Asher, and Blakely. She is also survived by her step-father: Mike McCourt; 7 of her siblings and spouses: Shirley Schuessler, Gary (Carol) Maddix, Kathy (Don) Pouwels, Dan (Ann) Maddix, Lisa (Ken McNeir) Gutowski, Ray Maddix and Shelly McCourt; and many nieces and nephews.

Laura was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers: David Maddix and Jim Maddix; her brother-in-law: Don Schuessler and sisters-in-law: LeeAnn Maddix and Sue Maddix.

A special thank you to her sister Lisa for so much love and care, staff at St. Mary's emergency room, and a very special thank you to the Lakeland Care healthcare workers and their staff.
