Obituary

Laurie Kathryn Mellang Aschenbrenner left this world peacefully on April 5, 2024, surrounded by her family and her beloved Collies, at the age of 67. She fought a courageous battle with Glioblastoma.

Laurie was born in Sterling, IL, the fourth child of Howard Kenneth Mellang and Jean Kisner Mellang. She attended Sterling Township High School, The University of Iowa and the University of Colorado. Her love of animals allowed her to train Arabian horses in Illinois, Louisiana and northern California.

Laurie later followed the Family tradition, owning and raising Irish Setters. Her love of the breed led her to the dog show circuit, where she eventually met her spouse, Randy Aschenbrenner. They were married on January 1, 1993. Together the couple showed and owned many canines, each one a special part of their life.

Laurie worked for 27 years at Van Boxtel RV in sales, where she thoroughly enjoyed her coworkers and the many clients she met along the way that became special friends. Outside of work, Laurie enjoyed camping, boating, fishing, motorcycling, cooking, wineries, and spending time camping in the couple's motorhome at Road America, as Laurie was a fan of the Indy-car series. Through these activities Laurie has gained many special and valued friendships from all over the country.

Laurie is survived by her husband Randy Aschenbrenner of Green Bay, her sisters Susan Mellang Sisler of Houston TX, Judith Mellang Harwell of Denver CO and Corona del Mar CA, and Robert Mellang and wife Mary of Libertyville IL and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother in law Webb Harwell.

The family would like to thank Dr. Gerald Eckardt, Dr. Jennifer Connelly of Froedert Hospital, Dr. Srinandan Guntupalli, and the loving people from Unity Hospice for their outstanding care during this journey.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, April 13, from 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM at Pfotenhauer Funeral Home, Howard-Suamico, 1145 Cardinal Lane. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM.
