Lawrence "Larry" Huben, 81, passed away at home on April 12, 2022, with family by his side. He was born on March 7, 1941, to the late John and Viola Huben. Larry graduated from Pulaski High School in 1959. He was drafted into the US Army in 1963 and served in the 1st Calvary Airborne Division and fought at the battle of Ia Drang Valley in Vietnam. After being honorably discharged, Larry married the love of his life, Diane Toellner, on June 25, 1966, at St. John's the Baptist Catholic Church in Howard.
Larry worked most of his career as a Supervisor of the Toweling Department at Fort Howard Paper Company. He was with Fort Howard for over 25 years, up until his retirement. Larry was a proud volunteer of the Howard Fire Department for 11 years and a life-long member of St. John's the Baptist Catholic Church.
Larry loved watching football, especially the Green Bay Packers and even attended the Ice Bowl at Lambeau Field in 1967. Larry was a wonderful storyteller and enjoyed telling jokes and making people laugh. He adored all his grandchildren and loved spending time with each of them. Larry could often be found enjoying the outdoors with his family and friends at the cabin up north.
Larry is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Diane; son, Greg (Molly) Huben and grandchildren, Kaylee Huben (special friend, Austin), Savannah (Ben) Hoskyn and a great-grandson due in June, and Brooke Huben; son, Dan (Stacey) Huben and grandchildren, Chase and Rilan Huben; daughter, Patti (Jim) Coopmans and grandchildren, MacKenzie Coopmans (fiancé Troy Wesley) and Madelyn Coopmans; son, Brian (Stephanie) Huben and grandchildren, Samuel and Brittan Huben; son, Kevin (Beverly) Huben and grandchildren, Abigail and Benjamin Huben; sister, Delores Cumps; brother, Alvin (Shirley) Huben; sisters-in-law, Darlene Huben and Dorothy Huben; brothers-in-law, Gary (Karen) Toellner, Richard Toellner, and Jim DuChateau, and many more nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Richard Huben and Melvin Huben, parents-in-law, Herbert and Florence Toellner; sister-in-law, Linda DuChateau; and brother-in-law, Ray Cumps.
The family would like to thank the hospice team at Aurora at Home Care, who were so helpful and thoughtful the past few months.
A visitation will take place on Wednesday, April 20, from 11 AM – 1 PM at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 2597 Glendale Ave, Howard, WI, (entrance directly across from the BP gas station on Glendale). A Mass of Christian Burial and military honors will follow at 1 PM, led by Fr. James Lucas. The Mass of Christian Burial will be livestreamed at http://www.facebook.com/sjbhchurch/ .
