Obituary

Lee Frances Vogels, 68, Green Bay, passed away on Thursday, March 23, 2017 at Aurora Baycare Medical Center after a year long struggle with cancer. Lee was born in Goodman, Wisconsin on May 4, 1948. He was raised by the late Vera (Peronteau) Vogels and Victor Vogels. He lived in Goodman and then Beloit before moving to Green Bay when he was still in grade school. Lee attended West High School and graduated with the class of '67. He enlisted in the US Army in 1967 and served 3 tours of duty in the Republic of Vietnam from January, 1968 to April, 1970. He was honorably discharged from the Army as a SPC5 in 1970. Upon his return from the Vietnam War, Lee went to school at UWGB and graduated in 1975 with a Bachelors' Degree in Communications. Lee also joined the US Navy Reserve in 1976 as a Navy Journalist and was honorably discharged in 1978. He met the love of his life Pamela K. Ferguson in Green Bay in 1971. They married in 1973 in Pamela's home town, Memphis, Tennessee. Lee was an Editor and Writer at UPI (United Press International Wire Service), the Green Bay News Chronicle, and then the Denmark Press. He also wrote articles for various magazines throughout the years. Lee retired in 2011. He loved writing and reading, constantly adding books to his extensive library. Lee had a passion for soccer both as a player at UWGB and a coach. He was a big Manchester United fan, and when it came to American Football, of course he was also a big Packer fan. He loved film, 60's music, photography, history and the outdoors.

Lee is survived by his wife Pam; his Children, Jason, Amber, and Matt; his Granddaughter Ariah, and his sister-in-law Patricia Ferguson (Fred Anderson).

He was preceded in death by his parents Vera and Victor Vogels; his father-in-law William Ferguson; mother-in-law Bernice (Wang) Ferguson, and his beloved dogs Casey and Bailey.

Lee was a quiet, humble, honest man who found peace in the simpler things in life. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was very grateful for the time he was able to spend with his beloved 7 year old granddaughter Ariah. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
