Leslie V. Wood age 86 and lifelong resident of Howard passed away on Saturday December 5 th , 2020 at a local hospital from complications of COVID 19.
He was born on March 4 th , 1934 to the late Lester and Jessie (Williquette) Wood. On October 5 th , 1956 he married Jacqueline Burkel, they spent all their married life together in the Howard area where they raised their family. She preceded him in death on July 10th, 2017.
Les enjoyed spending time with family and friends and meeting new people. He retired from the Brown County Highway Commission after 30+ years of employment. He stayed busy after retirement taking several different part time jobs, had a home-based chain sharpening business and most recently began to make jewelry from cutting out coins. He was always looking to learn a new skill and was usually very successful with the help of the internet. Les is also a proud veteran of the Marine Corps, in which he served during the Korean War.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Jessie Wood; wife Jacqueline; sisters and brother-in- law, Donna and (Hank) Gilson, Leatrice and (Ralph) Gilson, June and (Bert) Williquette, Carol and (Tom) Joly, Merlin Kimps.
Les is survived by his sister, Geri Kimps; his children, Robert (Diane) Wood, Brian (Barb) Wood, Brenda Wood and Dawn (Larry) Robenhorst; grandchildren, Brian Wood Jr., Kimberly (Jerimiah) Bruley, Matthew (Desiree) Wood, Wesley (Lauren) Wood, and Daniel Robenhorst; great grandchildren, Ava Bruley, Liam, Harlow, and Bodhi Wood, Jameson and Jasper Robenhorst.
A memorial gathering will be held at the Pfotenhauer Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Howard-Suamico location, 1145 Cardinal Lane, on Saturday, December 12, 2020 from 10 until 11:00 a.m. Memorial family service at 11:00 a.m. with Deacon Nick Williams officiating followed by Military Honors. Due to the COVID-19 situation, masks will be required and social distancing will be practiced.
