Obituary

What a full and blessed story she lived. Mardell was born in Butternut, WI on Sept. 28, 1925. God called Mardell home on December 26, 2016 at the age of 91. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She left an everlasting imprint that will live on through all that were lucky enough to have her in their life.

Mardell graduated from Butternut High school in 1944. She took the civil servants test and was offered a job in Washington D.C. during World War II. She felt honored to be a part of what history refers to as the "Government Girls." Being an avid piano player helped her become a very skilled typist, which led to her landing a job at the Department of the Navy and later at the Garfield hospital in Washington D.C. She lit up when she talked about living in D.C. where she met her husband William Hall, who was a navy photographer. During her time in D.C. she attended various events, including formal dances and saw President Roosevelt speak many times. In the later years when she reflected on her time in D.C., she couldn't believe how privileged she was to be working across the street from the White House.

Mardell moved to Green Bay, WI with her husband Bill to raise their three children. As a family they enjoyed camping trips, especially in Door County. Mardell volunteered at Bellin Hospital and was a member of PBX in Green Bay. Bill and Mardell were avid Packer fans and attended many games.

With her children grown Mardell moved on to a new career at Denmark High school. She started in 1980 in the guidance department supporting the teachers and staff. She loved the work and treasured the students she met and the friendships she made through the years. She often talked about her great memories of all the wonderful people she met in the Denmark community.

Mardell's true passion and talent in life was music. She taught piano to many students, and neighbors through the years. She loved all types of music and when she wasn't playing she was listening to her radio. All of her grandchildren and great grandchildren had many turns on Grandmas lap playing the piano and learning the basics of music under her guidance.

Mardell was preceded in death by her mother Rose (Hett) and step-father Frank Heiderer, father Victor Dahlen, husband William Hall, and brother Linus Heiderer.

Mardell is survived by her daughter, Brenda (Larry) Nemecek – Kaukauna, WI; two sons Frank (Mary) Hall – Green Bay, WI; Tom (Ruthann) Hall – Green Bay, WI. Grandchildren; Christopher Hall, Baltimore, MD; Katie Hall, Baltimore, MD; Rick (Kari) Horneck, Prosper, TX; Kristi (Brian) Swanson, Wrightstown, WI; Ryan (Candice) Horneck, St. Paul, MN; Tony (Jamie) Hall, Milwaukee, WI; Jeff Hall, Green Bay, WI, and 8 great-grandchildren. Also, special friend Linda Schuldes who grew up across the street from Mardell and was like a daughter to her.

The family would like to thank Jim Genrich, Administrator at McCormick Assisted Living and the wonderful staff, for all the loving care given to Mardell. Also thank you to Kayla Beyer, RN and Shana Valentine at Asera Care Hospice for all the love and compassion given to Mardell in her last months of life.
