Marie Dawn
(Cauley) Nelson
Jun 22, 1945 — Oct 23, 2021
Marie Dawn (Cauley) Nelson, age 76, of Suamico, WI passed away on October 23, 2021 after a battle with cancer. Marie was born to the late Joseph Cauley and Avis (Fossum) Cauley in West Allis, Wisconsin on June 22, 1945. She was the first born child who entered the world while her father was serving in the United States Army stationed in Germany during WWII. She married Curtis Nelson of Suamico, WI on October 22, 1971. They would have celebrated their 50 th wedding anniversary this year. Together they raised three daughters.
Marie was an avid reader who loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren fiercely. She spent her free time going to movies, the theatre, library and shops. Marie was a wonderful mother, but an even better grandmother. She loved to support her grandkids in their endeavors including attending their musical performances, sporting events and school activities. Each one was very special to her and they knew it. In recent years, Marie took great pleasure in supporting the next generation and watching her great grandchildren grow. If there is shopping in heaven, she is currently gathering goodies for the littles.
Besides supporting her family, Marie was an active member of the Suamico United Methodist Church for nearly 50 years. She was a sunday school teacher, youth leader, book club member and supported many of their missions over the years.
Marie is preceded in death by husband, Curtis Nelson, her mother, Avis (Fossum) Cauley and father, Joseph Cauley. She will be greatly missed by her three daughters, Tami (Scott) Hermes, Lisa (Steve) Wright, Niki (Dominic) Petit, her sister Colleen (Tom) Cauley and her brother Joe Cauley along with six grandchildren, Kodie, Adam, Lexi, Hunter, Alain & Lucien, as well as 6 great grandchildren. She is also survived by Jeff (Amy) Ortscheid and family which Marie & Curt mentored.
Marie's funeral will be held at Suamico United Methodist Church, 3266 N. Lakeview Dr., Suamico, on Saturday November 6 with visitation from 3-5 pm and a memorial service beginning at 5 pm. Condolences are welcome at www.PfotenhauerFuneralHome.com.
The family would like to thank the care team at Green Bay Health Services, especially Deneen, the nurse that cared for her with love and compassion the past two years, as well as Unity Hospice.
