Obituary

Marlene Hanson, age 86, was received by the loving arms of her Lord Jesus on Jan. 31, 2022 following a stroke.  She was born October 28, 1935, in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, the eldest daughter of Martin & Regina Jacobs. She graduated from Fergus Falls High School and later graduated from Wayne State college with a degree in education. With a true love for children and learning, her calling as teacher blessed many. Mrs. Hanson has served as a teacher at Elbow Lake Elementary School (MN) 1955 -56, Halstad Elementary School (MN) 1956-62, Stanton Elementary school (NE) 1969-73, Christ Lutheran School (NE) 1973-75, and Grace Lutheran School (ND) 1975-2000. Many students have been blessed by her guidance in grammar, penmanship, literature, life and faith.

Her life was marked by a servant heart and willingness to care for others. Her role as teacher and shepherdess began early in life on the Jacob's farm, assisting with daily chores and helping to raise five siblings. Lessons learned at a young age, with five fun-loving siblings, would serve her well through all of God's callings in her life. Joy-filled tales of fond memories and faith, despite life's difficulties, are heard at almost every Jacob's family gathering.

In addition to her teaching, she served the church in many ways. She was first called to faith by Baptism on November 24, 1935, where the Lord blessed her with the gift of life and forgiveness. She served as a musician, playing organ and piano to lead worship services. More recently, she blessed others as a caretaker through her prayer groups, ministry to shut-ins, sending cards and gifts, and through her quilting group.  She was a student of the Bible, and she loved every moment spent with her family.

Survivors include her three children: Steve (Namporn Muenjeen) Malme, Scott (Christine) Malme, Angela (fiancé Kevin Burkel) Kornowski; twelve grandchildren, Dallas (Sarah) Demarais, Chelsey (Cody Hampton) Malme, Champ, Nathalie, Ame and Matthew Malme,  Joseph Malme, Abigail (Karol) Kulak, Benjamin Malme, Jordan Lloyd, Gabriel Lloyd and Lydia Lloyd; three great grandchildren, Ava Malme, Harrison Hampton, and Joanna Kulak; three siblings, Wayne Jacobs, James (Carol) Jacobs, and Fred (Kathy) Jacobs, and  many cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends.  She also "adopted" many children who were her students, including Corey Isaak, and many Compassion International children around the world.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Martin & Regina Jacobs; husband, William Hanson; sister, Angela Weidner; and brother, Frank Jacobs.

Funeral services will be held at Pilgrim Lutheran Church, 1731 St. Agnes Drive, Green Bay, on Friday, Feb. 4 at 11:00am with Rev. Scott Malme officiating.   A visitation precedes the funeral service at the church from 9:00am – 11:00am.  A lunch reception will follow the service. A committal service will be held on a later date at Trinity Faith Cemetery in Fergus Falls, MN. Memorials may be offered to Compassion International, www.compassion.com .
