Mary Margaret
Johnson
May 11, 1947 — Oct 2, 2021
Mary Margaret Johnson, who lived in the town of Pittsfield, WI for the last 46 years, died peacefully at the age of 74 in her home surrounded by family on October 2, 2021.
Mary was born on May 11, 1947 in Green Bay, WI to Anthony and Margaret Baumgart. The second oldest of 11 children, she grew up on the family farm helping to take care of her younger brothers and sisters, first in Bellevue and then on Highway 29 (first farm on the left in Shawano county). She graduated from Pulaski High School in 1965 where she met her future husband Chuck, who was a year older. They reconnected in Green Bay in 1968, started dating, and were married at St. John the Baptist Church on July 30, 1971. Over the next 50 years, Mary and Chuck's family would grow to include her 4 beloved children, 3 daughters-in-law, and 6 precious grandchildren.
Mary was a devoted wife, mother, sister, and grandmother. Family meant everything to her. She was happiest with family, whether it was traveling to visit her children and grandchildren, celebrating a birthday with her sisters, or just spending time at home with Chuck caring for little Paulie. When she and Chuck traveled out of state, it was almost always to visit family: Arizona to visit Grandpa Tony, Los Angeles after their first grandchild Evan was born, Utah and North Carolina for Eric and Scott's weddings, Minneapolis to visit Beth, and extended stays in Black Mountain and Payson to help care for their sons' growing families.
Mary is survived by Chuck, her husband of 50 years; her children Steve (Jen), Scott (Lisha), Eric (Krissy), and Beth; her grandchildren Evan, Lilia, Alex, Kira, Luke, and Paul; and her siblings Dick (Sheri) Baumgart, Bill (Judy) Baumgart, Joy (Steve) Steenport, Ruth (Jim) Eliason, Sue Mielcarek, Patti (Mark) Gazella, Paul Baumgart, and Barb (Leon) Peterik. She was preceded in death by her parents Tony and Marge, her stepmother Gen, her older brother Mike, and her younger brother Danny.
The family would very much like to thank everyone at the Bellin Cancer Team and Unity Hospice for their loving and compassionate care during the last years and months of Mary's life.
Visitation will be Saturday, October 9 at 11:00 AM at St. John the Baptist Church, 2597 Glendale Avenue, Green Bay, WI, (one quarter mile east of the corner of Cardinal Ln. and Glendale Ave. Entrance directly across from BP gas station on Glendale.) with Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 1:30 PM. with Rev. Jim Lucas officiating. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Mary's name. Online condolences are welcome at www.PfotenhauerFuneralHome.com .
