Mary A. Schmitt, 77, of Howard, passed away peacefully on December 16, 2025. Mary was born on August 23, 1948, to James and Agnes Dahm. She dedicated more than 50 years of her life to the dental profession, working as a dental assistant and later sharing her knowledge by teaching at Northwest Technical College (NWTC). Mary took great pride in her work and in mentoring future generations.

In her personal life, Mary found joy in the simple pleasures. She loved reading, traveling, camping, and spending her summers in Door County. One of her greatest joys was time spent with her granddaughter, Emma. Mary also enjoyed a good card game and was well known for her love of cooking and baking for her family, always making gatherings feel warm and welcoming.

Mary is survived by her loving husband, Wayne; her son, Justin (Heather); and her cherished granddaughter, Emma. She is further survived by her siblings, Karolyn, Bob (Theresa), and Susan, as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Agnes Dahm; Jim Garceau; and her parents-in-law, Edmund and Joan Schmitt.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Unity Hospice, Violet Meadows, and St. Vincent Hospital for their compassionate care and support.

Services for Mary will be held at Pfotenhauer Funeral Home – Howard-Suamico, 1145 Cardinal Lane, on Friday, December 19, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., with a service to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made at the funeral home to help honor organizations Mary was deeply passionate about.
