Melvin (Mel) R. Valentine, 77, passed on July 14, 2022, after a long battle with cancer. His wife Amy was by his side every day and his family and friends. He was born August 15, 1944, to the late Clayton Jr. and Zerlena (Umentum) Valentine. He attended Pulaski High, graduated in 1962, and then was in the Navy Reserve from 1962 – 1964. He worked for a lot of companies in heating and cooling insulation, local 127. His hobbies were woodworking, making cabinets, and many other projects. Mel enjoyed time with family and friends, taking rides from b to c to d to get wood and stuff. He enjoyed listening to the Maino and Nick sports talk show.
Mel leaves behind his best friend and wife Amy (Willette) Valentine, six years of marriage and friends for 30 years, his daughters Trina (Steve) Kerscher, Tricia (Chris) Engum, grandkids Justin and Jessica Kerscher and Kaiden and Kyler Engum. Brother Donnie (Connie) Valentine, in-laws Andy (Janice) Willette, Sue (Dick) DeGroot, Brenda Willette, and Penny (Lynn) Willette, many special nieces and nephew, you know who you are, his best bubby Mikaela Joski, his beloved cats Harry and Harley, and godchildren Brian and Sara and family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Kenny, in laws Jules and Aileen (Kalfas) Willette.
Special thanks to Doctor Mark Jenson and Aseracare Hospice – Mandy, Chaplain Tammy, ex Chris, Angie, Halie, and ex Ali. Thanks to all the family and friends who came to visit Mel – it made his day! Whisper "I Love You" to a butterfly and it will fly to heaven to deliver your message. When you see a milky way, think of Mel. We love you Mel.
A memorial gathering will take place on Monday, July 25, from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM with a service and military honors to follow at Pfotenhauer Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Howard. Online condolences are welcome at www.PfotenhauerFuneralHome.com .
