Obituary

Norbert Francis Delvoye of Green Bay passed away on Saturday July 20, 2024 at the age of 93.

Norbert was born on January 15, 1931 in Duck Creek to the late Joseph and Alvina (Luedke) Delvoye.

He attended White Pine School in Suamico through the 8th grade and then went on to Vocational School studying as a machinist. He joined the United States Army in 1949 and was sent to the front line of the Korean War in 1950. He was discharged in 1952 then spent 8 years in the Army reserve. He earned the United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Medal with 1 bronze service star, Combat Infantry Badge, National Defense Service Medal, and Good Conduct Medal.

He did not like talking about his time in the service except when we went to appointments at the VA clinic. Other veterans would ask "What branch were you in? Where did you serve?" he would reply and every now and then we would get a glimpse of what he went through. Like the time he jumped in a hole and pretended to be dead as the enemy came at them. He saw 80 of his friends die that day, right in front of him.

He worked at Packerland Packaging, owned the V-Tavern in Howard, and was also part owner in Delvoye's New Bowling Service with his brother Leo. He later worked at Village Lanes until age 86 where he loved talking to the bowlers and being around the game. Norb was an avid bowler, bowling in the Green Bay Majors early in his career and bowling with his brothers into his 70's.

He loved to ride his motorcycle; he said it saved on gas. He rode well into his eighties at which time he had to give it up (against his wishes) due to health issues. If it were up to him he would have kept driving too as he would often tell us he was the best driver on the road! (In his mind he was anyway)!

He was very proud of his family, especially Jessica and Jim Jr.  We would hear from others how he spoke often of their accomplishments.

Norbert is survived by his son James (Wendy) Delvoye Sr., grandson James Jr., granddaughter Jessica Delvoye, great grandson Jacob Schuester and step-son Ryan (Molly) Dorak.

He is further survived by his brother Ray (Sarah) Delvoye, sister Janice Baker, sister-in-law Beverly Delvoye and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, infant sisters Isabelle and Judy, sister Dorothy (Ken) Osmond, brothers Don (Betty) Delvoye, Melvin (Marie) Delvoye, Gerald (Jerry), Robert, Roger and Leo Delvoye. Brother-in-law Dennis Baker and step-daughter Donna VanderVeren.

Visitation will be held at Pfotenhauer Funeral Home, Howard-Suamico location, on Wednesday, July 24 from 9:00 – 11:00 AM with a service to follow at 11:00 AM. Burial will be at St. John's Cemetery in Howard.

The family would like to thank the staff at Veteran's Manor, most notably Theresa Williams and Tanya Puyleart for their great care and concern for Norbert during his time there. Also the other veterans at Veteran's Manor who spent time with Norbert, kept an eye on him and kept us informed. We would also like to thank the staff at Courtyard at Bellevue for their care for him and their kindness to us over the last two years. Our gratitude to AseraCare Hospice for the excellent care, religious support and heart felt attention they provided Norbert and our family.
