I, Patricia Ann (McDermid) Hilbert, was born Apr 14, 1928 in Oconto Falls and I died peacefully at home with my family at my side on Dec 9, 2015 at the age of 87. My parents were Walter and Ruth (Calba) McDermid. I was 1 yr and 4 days old when my mother died and my sister, Anita, and I went to live with our paternal grandparents, Daniel and Marguerite McDermid in Krakow. I lived there 10 years, then moved back to Oconto Falls after my father married Arlene Arveson. I went to 6 different schools and graduated from Suring High School. One month after graduation I signed up as a seaman on the Great Lakes, which was considered part of the Coast Guard. For 2 years I worked on the William H Wolf freighter with my dad, sister and aunt. When I returned home, I met Norbert Hilbert and was married on June 14, 1947. We moved to Howard and raised 6 children. He preceded me in death on Dec 24, 1991. During my life, I worked in the food industry at Oneida Golf Course, NWTC, and St John the Baptist School. I became famous for my homemade bread and sweet rolls. I loved gardening, cribbage, manhattans, watching my birds and spending time at my Robert's Lake cabin.
I am survived by my children: Mary (Patrick) Williams, Rick (Jill Lefevre) Hilbert, Gary Hilbert, Dennis (Sherry) Hilbert, Susan (Gerald) Tilque, John (Dana) Hilbert and Terri Hilbert; Seventeen Grandchildren: Todd, Teresa, Sarah, James, Rebekah, Zachary, Matthew, Paul, Benjamin, Joseph, Rachel, Andrea, Danielle, Paul, Brian, Daniel and Shelby; and thirteen great grandchildren. I am also survived by my sisters and brother; Kathy (David) Kasten, Sharon Porter, and Wayne McDermid; Sisters-in-law: LaValice Hilbert and Marge Hilbert and brothers-in-law: Edwin Hilbert and Ken Hilbert.
I was preceded in death by my husband, parents, stepmother, my daughter-in-law: Shelly Hilbert, grandson: John Williams, sister and brother-in-law: Anita (Leo) Wawiorka sister: Mary Ellen McDermid, brother-in-law: Steve Porter, nephews: Randy Wawiorka, Scott Kasten, and Stevie Porter and my friend: Bub Strehlow.
