Obituary

Patricia "Patsy" Marie (VerKuilen) Sorenson, age 84, of Howard, passed away on Sunday, June 4, 2023, surrounded by her family, after a long courageous battle with Alzheimer's/Dementia and recent diagnosis of bladder cancer. She was born on March 15, 1939, in Green Bay, to Joseph and Ella (DeValk) VerKuilen. Pat graduated from Green Bay West High School, Class of 1957, and was a member of the high school cheerleading squad.

After graduation, Pat married her high school sweetheart, Gerald "Jerry" Sorenson on September 27, 1958, in Green Bay, WI. They shared 58 devoted years together before Jerry passed away on May 19, 2016. Pat formed the cheerleading program for St. John the Baptist School and coached until her youngest son graduated and moved on to high school.

Pat ran the family farm while Jerry drove semi-truck over the road. She later joined her husband driving with Packerland Transport, followed by Heim Trucking. Shortly after, they formed their own trucking company, S-Corp Trucking, and purchased a fleet of trucks. In the winter months, they would both drive their truck, hauling loads to California and back. During harvest season on the farm, Pat always had homemade meals prepared at the end of the workday for those who worked on the farm. Many of the workers were friends of the boys that stayed at the house during the summer months and became an extended part of the family.

Every February, Pat and Jerry enjoyed traveling to Florida to watch the NASCAR Daytona 500 with a group of friends. During the summer months, she loved to work in her garden, and care for her flowers around the house. The pantry shelves were always stocked after she canned the produce her bountiful gardens supplied over the years. Pat loved the outdoors! She enjoyed floating in their pool and watching her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren swim. Pat spent the last few years of her life at New Perspective Senior Living in Howard, making new friends, playing bingo and enjoying endless card games.

Pat is survived by her three sons; Scott (Sheri), Stuart (Kim) and Steven (Sheri); grandchildren, Jeremy (Christina), Cody (Denise), Jake (Kortney), Cassidy, Whitney (Chance), Morgan (Max), Emily (Jace), Hayley (Jake), Matt (Brooke), Andy (Stephanie) and Wyatt; great-grandchildren, Davis, Leeyah, MaKenna, Ivy, Camilla, Tripp, Rory, Gerald, Brinley, Colt, and Barrick. Brothers-in-law Keith Sorenson and Tom Meetz. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Pat was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jerry, her son Shane, sister Shirley Partee, brother and sister-in-law Dan and Jan VerKuilen, sister-in-law Karen Meetz and two grandsons Dakota and Bradey Sorenson.

Like Jerry, Pat did not want anyone to mourn her passing but to celebrate her life with the many wonderful memories and stories she graced us with. Pat's "Celebration of Life" will be held from 4:00pm to 8:00pm on Thursday, June 15, 2023, at D2 Sports Pub, 530 Larsen Orchard Pkwy, Hobart, WI. Online condolences are welcome at www.PfotenhauerFuneralHome.com.

Pat was an avid cat lover and she contributed yearly to the Bay Area Humane Society.  In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution can be made to the Bay Area Humane Society in Pat Sorenson's name.

The Sorenson family would like to thank New Perspective Senior Living and Moments Hospice Care for their compassionate End-of-Life Care they provided our mother.
