Obituary

Peter Richard Hampton, 77, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family, on December 2, 2016 after a courageous three-year battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born in Ishpeming, MI on Oct. 31, 1939 to the late Joseph and E. Beryl (Chenhall) Hampton. Pete graduated in the Class of 1957 from L'Anse, MI High School, and the Class of 1965 from Michigan Tech with a degree in Civil Engineering. His first job after graduating from Michigan Tech was with The Wisconsin Natural Gas Co. Peter was then employed for 35 years at Berners-Schober Associates as a structural engineer, project representative and a Director of the firm. He was proud of his work designs of local schools and hospitals and the first sky boxes overlooking Lambeau Field.

He married Shirley Hovey in November of 1961. They had two children, Jeffrey and Joelene Hampton. They were married for 21 years until Shirley passed away in 1982.

Peter married his loving wife Marian (Coble) Schuh in August of 1985. They enjoyed life together sharing in all things beautiful and were a positive example to their blended family. They worked on crossword puzzles daily, jigsaw puzzles, and enjoyed gardening and tending to their home and landscape. Together they were long time active members of Bethany United Methodist Church where they sang in the choir and he sang in the gospel quartet with Pastor Green, who is presiding over the service.

Pete enjoyed making gifts for his children and grandchildren in his wood working shop. He enjoyed basketball, baseball, softball, golfing, hunting and fly fishing. He always looked forward to his bi-annual camping trips with the Hampton men. He greatly enjoyed watching his grandkids in all their activities. Learning a love of music as a child from his mother Pete played the piano and the guitar.

Survivors include his wife, Marian Hampton; children, Jeffrey (Katie) Hampton, De Pere; and Joelene Hampton, Allouez; step sons, Kevin (Fredricka) Schuh, LaFayette, AL; Kristopher (Ann) Schuh, Arvada, CO; grandchildren, Benjamin and Joshua Hampton, Calvin Winters and Alexandria Winters, Sophia and Gabrielle Schuh, Ashley Kinney and Jacob Schuh, Gayle Conway, Tabatha Jarmolowicz, Jim and Craigan Lynch; Brothers Thomas (Patricia) Hampton; Terry (Susan) Hampton; Gerald (Sally) Hampton; cousin Alan Nelson; in-laws, Russell and Lydia Coble; Clarence and Sue Coble; Ron and Tammy Coble; Anne and Bob Biernasz; Cyndy and Dennis Bears; Steve and Lucy Coble; in addition many aunts; uncles; nieces; nephews great grandchildren and special friends.

Pete was preceded in death by his parents, first wife and mother to his children, Shirley A (Hovey) Hampton and her parents Auni (Paul) Kostomo, sister Shirley E (Russ) Seppi; nephew Royd Seppi; sisters-in-law Kay Hampton and Susan (Coble) Diedrich; mother and father-in-law, Russell and Beatrice Coble and granddaughter Hannah (Kristopher and Ann).

Friends and family may call at Pfotenhauer Funeral Home, 2379 East Mason Street, Green Bay, on Saturday, Dec. 10, 2016 from 11:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. Celebration of life ceremony 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Pastor Pat Green presiding.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Pete's name at the funeral home.
