Richard Hawley, 89, passed away December 19, 2021 after a short illness. He was born February 12, 1932, the son of Ralph and Arsene Perrault Hawley. He married Colleen Sullivan January 28, 1956. Colleen died November 30, 2021.
After Richard graduated from Green Bay East High School he joined the United States Air Force and served in the Korean War. Richard was very proud of his service in the Air Force, regularly attending reunions of service members. In 2019, at the urging of his granddaughter, he participated in an Honor Flight to Washington, DC, describing it as one of his best experiences.
After discharge from the Air Force he enrolled at St. Norbert College under the G. I. Bill. It was there that he met Colleen. After graduation he worked as a history teacher at Wausau Newman High School. After several years at Newman he returned to Green Bay to teach at Preble High School. Richard later obtained his Master's Degree in Counseling from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and spent the majority of his career as a school counselor.
After his retirement he enjoyed volunteering for St. Vincent de Paul, spending time with his grandchildren and yearly trips to Florida. He was an avid golfer, particularly proud of his two holes in one.
Richard is survived by his children, John, of Random Lake, Meghan (Scott Shallow), Green Bay, and granddaughter Emma, Madison. He is also survived by siblings Jeanne Pomeroy, North Carolina and Ralph, Madison. In addition he is survived by special nephews, Peter (Leann) Stone, Mequon, David Hannon, Kimberly, and other nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Colleen, grandson Alec, his parents, and siblings Robert, Yvonne, Janice and Beatrice.
Richard was a long time and active member of St. Philip the Apostle Church, 312 Victoria Street in Green Bay. The Funeral service will be at St. Philip on Friday, December 31, 2021 at 11:00 a.m.
The family will greet friends before the service beginning at 10:00 a.m. Masks and social distancing are encouraged. In lieu of flowers memorials to College Ready for the Alec Thomas Scholarship are appreciated. Online condolences are welcome at www.PfotenhauerFuneralHome.com
