Obituary

Robert "Bob" C. Smits, 78, Ledgeview, passed away unexpectedly at home on Christmas Day, Friday, Dec. 25, 2015. Bob gave himself to God. That was the best gift that he could give on Jesus' birthday.

He was born in Green Bay on Aug. 29, 1937 to the late William and Emma (VanderKelen) Smits. Bob was a graduate of East High School. He grew up and worked on the family farm as a young adult. During those years, he also started a band, "Bob and the Bobcats" that was popular during the 1950's and 1960's in the Green Bay Area.

On November 28, 1963 he married Patricia Farah at St. Patrick's Church in Green Bay. In 1964, Bob and Pat went into business, opening the Redwood Inn, which has been serving families for the past 52 years. Bob was known for his quick wit and humor when working behind the bar and in later years as the front door greeter. Not only did Bob and Pat work at the Redwood, they also raised their two children there and taught them how to be successful in life.

Bob enjoyed his family more than anything. During his free time he enjoyed hunting, trips to Las Vegas and was also a huge Elvis enthusiast.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia; children, John (Tracy) Smits; Jennifer (Don) Sipes; grandchildren, Johnny, Robby and step grandchildren, D.J., Alyssa and Isabella; sister, Marcella (Wally) Horkman; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Mel (Jacqueline) Fisher; sister-in-law, Diane Farah. Further survived by many nieces and nephews.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; father and mother-in-law, Fred (Julia) Farah; sister and brother-in-law, Mary (Hank) Ziolkowski; brother and sister-in-law, Donald (Jean) Smits; brother-in-law, Edward Farah.
