Robert Walter Obenberger, 73 of Green Bay passed away peacefully on the afternoon of Friday March 25, 2016 after a 4 year battle with Melanoma. He was surrounded by his loving family at the Unity Hospice Residence. Robert was born on July 29, 1942 in West Bend, WI. He grew up in Hartford, WI where he attended high school and graduated in 1960. He went on to earn a Business degree at UW—Whitewater in 1964, a Master's degree at Northern Illinois University in 1966, and a Doctorate degree at Louisiana State University in 1974. On August 30, 1969 Robert married Elizabeth Evans in Hobart, IN. Education was very important to Robert and he was passionate about teaching. Most of his 38 year career was spent at UW—Green Bay where he taught marketing for 27 years before retiring as Associate Professor Emeritus. Robert cared deeply about his students and stayed in contact with many of them following their careers and speaking proudly of them to his friends and family.
Robert enjoyed spending time on the lake in Three Lakes, WI. He vacationed there with his family in his early years and eventually built a cabin where he enjoyed boating and driving his Jeep in the forest. During retirement he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, reading, model railroading, and was an avid fan of the Packers, auto racing, and LSU sports.
Robert is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; his son, Kurt (Heather) of Menomonie; and grandchildren: Tyler and Grayson; sister, Kay Baetz; and brother-in-law Robert Baetz.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Walter and Mildred Obenberger; and father-in-law and mother-in-law: Robert and Irene Evans.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00pm on Thursday March 31, 2016 at Pfotenhauer Funeral Home East, 2379 East Mason St, Green Bay. A memorial scholarship fund has been established, envelopes will be available at the funeral home and there will be an online donation option.
