Obituary

Ronald "Ponch" Hyland, 80, Suamico, passed away on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 surrounded by his family to join Marilyn "Moe" on the eighth anniversary of her passing.  He was born December 16, 1937 in Oconto to the late John and Vida (Couillard) Hyland.  In 1955, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged.  On August 20, 1960, he was united in marriage to Marilyn Topel.  She preceded him in death February 23, 2010.  He resided in the Green Bay area while working at Proctor & Gamble for 35 years as a machine operator retiring May 2, 1995, relocating in Suamico after retiring.  Ponch was an avid Green Bay Packers fan and looked forward to every season.  He was also a fan of UWGB Girls Basketball.  Ponch could be found with friends in the bleachers at many home basketball games rooting for the girls.  He was a member of the Elks Club of Oconto and enjoyed going to monthly meetings—this was a time for him to get out with friends, share stories and lots of laughs.  He took opportunities to enjoy dinners with friends and the occasional road trip to the casino.  Ponch also looked forward to his quarterly gatherings with former co-workers from Proctor & Gamble.  Weekly, Ponch could be found at the Four Way in Suamico enjoying wings with family.  He courageously battled cancer for many years, never complaining or letting it get in the way of life.

Survivors include his son, Bruce (Vicki) Hyland and their children, Andrew (Brittnie Hill) and Jordan, Green Bay, daughter, Jayne (Tish Rodriguez) Hyland, El Paso, Texas; brother, Wayne (Mary) LaCourt, sisters, Linda (Ronald) Carey, Joanne LaCourt; sister-in-law, Janet Hyland; brother-in-law, Dean Jensen.  Further survived by other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; stepfather, Clarence LaCourt; In-laws, Fred and Ida Topel; brother, Dalton; sisters Alice Jensen, Mary Lou Lackey.

A Celebration of Ponch's life will be held at the Pfotenhauer Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Howard-Suamico location, 1145 Cardinal Lane on Monday, March 5, 2018 from 3 until 7 p.m. with a service and Military Honors to follow.  Online condolences welcome at www.PfotenhauerFuneralHome.com

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in his name at the funeral home.
