Rosemary A.
Knedle
Jul 29, 1920 — Feb 7, 2016
Rosemary A. ("Rosie") Knedle (née Schott) died peacefully February 7th at Bornemann's Assisted Living Home in Green Bay, WI, at the age of 95. As the matriarch of her family, she will long be remembered for her courage, her impeccable style, her grace, and above all, her laughter and sense of humor.
Rosemary is survived by two children Jeanne Libert and Mary Ellen (Peter Murray), "foster son" Richard ("Dick") Knedle (Anne Lutsey), 11 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren, and lifelong friends Ellie Dietzler and Marie VanDam. She was preceded in death by her husband Matt and son Paul.
Born on July 29, 1920 to John Schott and Magdalena Theisen, Rosemary was a life-long resident of Green Bay. She graduated from St. Joseph's Academy in 1937 and married Matthias Marten Knedle in 1939. Rosie was a strong and valiant woman. She lovingly cared for Matt throughout his long illness with multiple sclerosis while meeting the challenges of raising a busy and active family. Their relationship was an example of a loving marriage to all who knew them.
Rosie had an inquisitive mind and a thirst for knowledge. Throughout her life she was an avid reader and enjoyed the very experience of learning. She worked for many years in office support, studied German for a time, became a famously excellent cook, and was an accomplished gardener. In their later years, she and her husband opened and managed the Bay Craft & Hobby Shop.
One niece wrote describing her with these words: "my fabulous Aunt Rosie. She has long been my hero -- a bright, courageous, immensely amusing woman. I will always remember her sassy wit and a heart overflowing with love."
Pfotenhauer Funeral Home East is serving the family. A celebration of Rosemary's life will be held at St Bernard Catholic Church, 2040 Hillside Lane, on Thursday, February 11, 2016. A time of visitation will begin at 9 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Online condolences welcome at www.PfotenhauerFuneralHome.com The family is most grateful to the caregivers of Bornemanns's Assisted Living and Unity Hospice for the care given to Rosemary.
Memorials are preferred to the Salvation Army or Paul's Pantry in Green Bay.
