Stuart "Kirby" Carpenter, Jr., 75, died Sunday, February 25th after a short illness. Stu was born in 1948 in Wisconsin Rapids. He grew up there until his family moved to Wausau. He graduated from Wausau East High School in 1966. After high school, Stu attended UW Marathon in Wausau and UW Stevens Point.
Stu began his business career with Wisconsin Finance Corp. He worked in financial services his entire life. He finished his career with Citi Financial Services. Stu won Manager of the Year awards while he worked with Wisconsin Finance.
He met his wife, Marge, at UW Stevens Point in 1970. Stu and Marge were married 52 years in August of this year. Stu and Marge lived in Green Bay, Rice Lake, and Wisconsin Rapids. Most of their life was in Green Bay for 48 years.
Stu's hobbies included hunting, trap shooting, fishing, and golf. He loved fishing on Lake Michigan with his dad and going on Canadian fishing trips with his friends, John, Rocky, and Andy. Stu's favorite hunting buddy was Vern Monson. They took trips to several states, hunting birds with their dogs.
Stu and Marge were lucky to travel to many national parks, take a cruise to Alaska and after retirement, spend time in Gulf Shores, Alabama.
He is survived by his wife, and his sister, Sally Skibba. His parents, Carolye and Stuart Carpenter, and his other sister, Joanna (Carpenter) Fiore preceded him in death. He had nieces, Kathy Miller, Susan Wasko, and Michelle Davalos and nephews, Mike Skibba and Chris Skibba. His surviving in-laws include Bonita Riemer, Mike Riemer, Russ Riemer and Patrick Riemer. One sister-in-law, Sandy Peters and a brother-in-law, Terry Riemer preceded him in death.
Stu didn't have brothers, but his friends were so important to him. They were friends from childhood, Rocky Siewert, Andy Spees and John McGregor. They called themselves the Four Stallions that had to run free!
A memorial gathering for Stu will be held Saturday, March 9th, from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM.
