Sue left Suamico Tuesday, September 20 th , to go wish her mom a belated Birthday. Sue was born October 7, 1945, the first of thirteen children to Cyril and Rita (VandenHoven) Huven in Green Bay. She graduated from West High School with the class of 1963. Sue married Daniel Koehne on June 11, 1966, at St. Joseph's church in Green Bay.
Sue wore many hats throughout her life. During high school she worked at the FairLane on West Mason. After graduation she worked as a secretary at several paper mills in the Green Bay area. After Dan returned from Vietnam she joined him in Utah. She worked as a secretary for the IRS in Salt Lake City before landing a job as a secretary on Hill AFB, where Dan was stationed.
In 1968, Sue and Dan moved back to Green Bay where in 1969 Sue put on her favorite hat - mother. Sue, Dan, and Andrea then moved to Waupaca for a year, before Dan was transferred to Wausau. Here Sue added son Erich and daughter Alice to her family. While in Wausau, Sue worked as an Avon Lady, secretary at several medical clinics and for eleven years as a licensed insurance agency for Prudential. She then managed a Family Health Specialists for five years, until they merged with the local hospital. The last fifteen years of her career she spent managing Northland Orthopedics Clinic in Rhinelander, retiring in December of 2012. After retiring, she and Dan returned to the Green Bay area.
Sue was a proud and active member of the communities she lived in. She was a long-time member of Altrusa of Wausau, highly involved in supporting the Little Red School house in Marathon Park. She sang many years in the Nicolet Choraliers in Rhinelander. She was proud to be part of the Historic West Elementary Project that provided affordable housing in Rhinelander. During her last years of working she was a charter member of Lets Go Fishing Northwoods, bringing fishing and boating excursions to seniors, youth, and veterans at no cost.
Sue is survived by her husband of fifty six years, Daniel. Her daughters Andrea (Jeff) Meyer, Alice (Reuben) Ficklin, son Erich (Carmen). Six grandchildren, Kristofer Ruef-Meyer, Rebecca Meyer, Elijah Dean, Kristine Gorden, Ellis Ficklin and Zarah Sue Ficklin. Two great-grandchildren, Summer Rose Potter and Isaiah Dean. She is further survived by her twelve brothers and sisters; Colette (Dave) Beckman, Jim (Dottie), Richard (Robert), Kathleen (Dennis) Graunke, Linda Noonan, Rebecca Huven, Joe (Connie), Robert (Howard), Danny, Jean (John) Hazuka, Larry, Cindy (Dan) Flauger.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Cy and Rita. Her mother and father- in-law, Dan and Alice. A brother-in-Law Tom Noonan, and a sister-in-law Nancy (Larry) Huven.
A memorial visitation will take place on Saturday, October 8, 2022, 9:00 – 11:00 AM at Pfotenhauer Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Howard-Suamico. A memorial mass will follow at 11:00 AM. Online condolences are welcome at www.PfotenhauerFuneralHome.com .
