Obituary

Vernon C. Gussert (Gus), 90, passed away peacefully at home with family by his side on March 31, 2021.  He was born in Green Bay on December 1 st , 1930 to the late Clarence and Stella (Seidl) Gussert. Vernon married the love of his life, Lorraine Okray on April 24, 1954.

Vernon served in the U.S. Navy and the Korean War from 1951-1955 before being honorably discharged. He was a member of Bellevue VFW Post 9677 and an active member of St. Bernard and Resurrection parishes. He went on to work for several cold storage facilities in Green Bay before owning and operating Olson Sales to retirement.

In retirement Gus and Lorraine enjoyed Midwest road trips including casino weekends and "resting" at the cottage.  Gus was always an avid card player and regularly participated in local cribbage tournaments and his weekly poker nights. Trap shooting, and of course Packer games were always in the mix.

Survivors include his children, David (Susan Pinsonnault) Gussert, Lynn Engels, James (Karen) Gussert, Catherine (Paul) Leicht, Jeanne (Gary Van Vreede) Gussert, Daniel Gussert and Tricia Karl, and Mary (John) Vanden Avond, grandchildren Michael Gussert and Michael Pijoan, Amelia Gussert, Kyle Engels, Jacqui Engels, Justin Leicht and Stephanie Goethe, Erin (Brett) Mommaerts, Ryan Leicht, Nicole Lubinski, Lucas (Danielle) Lubinski,  Andrew (Kira) Gussert, Alaina Gussert, Weston Gussert, Jessica Vanden Avond and Dylan Leonard, Lauren Vanden Avond and Mitch Michaels, great grandchild McKenzie Gussert and special friend, Ken Engels.

Vernon was preceded in death by his sister Beverly Smits, parents-in-law; Frank and Jennie (Shulfer) Okray; and in-laws, Norbert (Betty) Okray and Walter (Millie) Okray and grandchildren Jennifer and Eric Leicht.

Visitation will be held at Resurrection Catholic Church, 333 Hilltop Dr., Green Bay, WI 54301 from 9:30am to 11:00am Friday April 9th, 2021; followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am, concluding with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, family has asked for donations to be made to CMT (Charcot-Marie-Tooth) Research Foundation in honor of Gus. Masks will be required and social distancing will be practiced.
